The Google Pixel 4/4XL was a major upgrade to the Pixel lineup in more than one way. With the Pixel 4 XL, Google discarded the awkwardly long notch on the Pixel 3XL to accommodate a slew of sensors alongside the selfie camera. These sensors included a 3D facial recognition kit, just like iPhone’s Face ID, and Soli RADAR for motion sensing gestures. Although the Pixel 4 XL is a year old, you might miss its flagship power with the newer Pixels. If you don’t mind adopting facial unlock as your only way to unlock the phone, the Pixel 4 XL is on sale at Amazon this Cyber Monday. You can get it for only $550 instead of its listed price of $900, saving $350.
- Despite being a year old, the Google Pixel 4 XL is among the best camera phones on the market. It is the first Pixel with dual cameras and features Google's experimental Soli technology for motion sensing. You can buy the phone for just $550 at the Cyber Monday sale on Amazon.
Google’s hardware ambitions did not quite take the same flight as they expected with the Pixel 4/4 XL packed with an awful lot of new features and the company officially discontinued the series in favor of the more conventionally designed Pixel 5 and the Pixel 4a 5G. They are powered by Snapdragon 765G instead of the latest Snapdragon 8xx series chipset. While the Pixel 4XL features an older Snapdragon 855 chip, you can expect nearly the same CPU power and better GPU performance.
With the Pixel 4 series, Google also took a major leap from single cameras for three generations to dual cameras. The secondary camera on this generation was a 16MP telephoto camera with a 2x optical zoom complementing the 12MP primary camera. In addition to the camera hardware, the two phones brought along a host of software features for photography, many of which were not even highlighted at the launch event. The Pixel 4 series was announced with Android 10 out-of-the-box and is bound to get three years of incremental updates ie. up to Android 13.
The Pixel 4 XL, although listed at $900, has usually been available between $600-$700, of late. Nonetheless, $549 is still the lowest price ever for which the phone has been available.
Meanwhile, if you would rather be happy with the newer Pixel that replaces the telephoto with a wide-angle camera, you can also save $200 on the Pixel 5 at Best Buy.
