Logitech adds two nice mice and keyboards to their designed for Mac portfolio

Logitech is expanding on its popular Designed for Mac portfolio. Coming to the family are two mice and two keyboards. The mice include the Logitech MX Master 3S for Mac and the Logitech Vertical Ergonomic Mouse for Mac. The two new keyboards are the MX Mechanical Mini for Mac and a new Logitech K380 Multi-Device Bluetooth keyboard in Blueberry color.

All the products are now on sale and put the needs of Mac users first. Logitech says it’s aiming for seamless integration with Macs, as well as performance and comfort with these products.

New Logitech Designed for Mac mice

If you’re familiar with Logitech’s lineup, then these new mice should not be too surprising for you. Both of these mice are essentially specialized Mac versions of the previously available multiplatform MX Master 3S mouse, and the Lift Vertical Ergonomic mouse. There are not many visual differences over the multiplatform versions. Logitech told us that the firmware tweaks are what matter, as well as a few smaller tweaks with packaging.

Here are the differences between these new mice and the existing products. In the case of the MX Master 3S for Mac, Logitech is opting to include a USB-C to USB-C cable for charging. Both of these products also don’t come with USB receivers, as Logitech wants Mac users to enjoy a free port on their device, instead. If you buy a Logi Bolt receiver separately or use an existing one, you will be able to use it with your mouse if you please.

As a reminder, the Logitech MX Master 3s for Mac should bring several improvements for Mac users that were first seen on Logitech’s multiplatform mouse, the Master 3S. That includes double the DPI capability at 8,000, and a quieter click over the Master 3. Logitech says the mouse is 90% quiet than the regular Master 3. Other highlights include the ability to connect the mouse to three different Apple devices on macOS and iPadOS and switch between them with Easy-Switch. The mouse is rechargeable, too, and you’ll get 3 hours of use in 1 minute with quick charge.

With the Logitech Lift Vertical Ergonomic Mouse for Mac, you’re getting a much more comfy mouse for long-term use with a Mac product. It was developed in the company’s Ergo lab and lifts your hands to a 57-degree angle at a handshake position, relieving pressure on your wrists. This also helps keep your arm and upper body in a more natural position.

The Logitech MX Master 3S for Mac comes in at $100, and the Lift Vertical Ergonomic Mouse for Mac will cost $70. Both will be sold at Logitech.com and other retailers. You can also customize the MX Master 3S for Mac and the actions for the various buttons via the new Logi Options + app.

New Logitech Designed for Mac keyboards

Logitech’s new Designed for Mac keyboards also is quite similar to existing Logitech products. The most notable of the two is Logitech MX Mechanical Mini for Mac. This looks visually similar to the multiplatform MX Mechanical Mini, but the difference is that Logitech says it’s their first Mechanical keyboard optimized for Mac. You’ll notice that with the Mac layout for the keys at the lower left corner. The new Logitech K380 Multi-Device Bluetooth Keyboard for Mac, meanwhile, just has a new Blueberry color and keeps the classic scooped keys and ultra-quiet typing experience.

If you never used MX Mechanical Mini then on the Mac version you’ll notice the dedicated Mac layout with the CTRL, Option, and Command keys being where they would on a Mac keyboard. You’ll also get a low-profile setup that takes up less desk space. The keyboard comes in two color options, either Pale Gray or Space Gray, to match your Mac’s finish. There’s smart lighting on board so the backlights will turn on when needed, and adjust based on the brightness in the room around you. You’ll also be able to connect up to three different Mac or iPad devices and enjoy USB-C to USB-C charging. Note that, unlike the regular MX Mechanical Mini, there’s only one switch type on this Mac version. It is the brown, tactile quiet switches.

The Logitech MX Mechanical Mini for Mac costs $150. Logitech K380 Multi-Device Bluetooth Keyboard for Mac comes in at $40. You can assign tasks to certain keys on a per-app basis, and manage these keyboards with the new Logi Options + app.

All of these products are sustainable. There’s 54% recycled plastic in Lift for Mac, 47% for MX Mechanical Mini for Mac in Space Gray, 36% in MX Mechanical Mini for Mac in Pale gray, 27% for MX Master 3S for Mac in Space Gray, and 22% for MX Master 3S for Mac in Pale Gray. The aluminum in MX Mechanical Mini for Mac’s top case is also made with renewable energy rather than fossil fuels.

Google Pixel 7 shows up early on Amazon, reveals October 13 release date

The Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro are set to be announced in a little over a week at the Made by Google launch event. While we have already seen quite a bit leading up to the launch, it looks like we are getting at least one more leak, this time coming from online retailer Amazon.

The Google Pixel 7 was spotted on the US Amazon website by Brandon Lee, who shared the following image through his Twitter account. While it still appears in search results if you check using its product number, clicking on the Google Pixel 7 on Amazon currently takes you to an error page stating that it is unavailable. While there isn’t too much new here, Amazon does have the retail release date of the smartphone listed for October 13. From a promotional ad released last week, we know that Google plans to offer pre-orders of its handsets starting on October 6. Although pricing could change, the listing for the Google Pixel 7 on Amazon is shown at $599, which is what we also saw from last week’s pricing leak from Target.

 

Google hasn’t been shy about showing off the upcoming Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, announcing the devices early during Google I/O. The handsets will look nearly identical to the Pixel 6 series and will be powered by an all-new Google Tensor G2 processor. Both the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro will be available in Obsidian and Snow colors, but the Pixel 7 Pro will have an exclusive color called Hazel, while the Pixel 7 will have an exclusive color called Lemongrass. In addition to the handsets, Google will also launch its new Pixel Watch, the company’s first Wear OS device. Naturally, to get the full details, we will still have to wait just a little while longer, but with the event set for October 6, we won’t have long to wait.

The Nreal Air AR smart glasses are finally available on Amazon in the U.S.

Almost a year after its international debut, Nreal has finally brought the Nreal Air augmented reality smart glasses to the U.S. The glasses are up for sale on Amazon for a discounted price of $379, and Nreal is also offering an iPhone adapter for interested buyers.

In case you missed our previous coverage, the Nreal Air are a pair of lightweight AR smart glasses that aim to offer an immersive viewing experience to smartphone users. The glasses look a lot like Ray-Ban’s iconic Wayfarer sunglasses. But, unlike regular sunglasses, the Nreal Air feature built-in OLED screens that emulate a display measuring 130-inches when viewed at a simulated distance of 3 meters and a massive 201-inches at a virtual distance of 6 meters. The high-color density OLED screens offer a pixel density as high as 49 pixels per degree and 90Hz refresh rate support.

Nreal claims that the new Nreal Air are 25 percent lighter than the Nreal Light, which went on sale through Verizon late last year. The newer model also consumes 50 percent less power, allowing users to enjoy an immersive gaming or video viewing experience for much longer.

The glasses are compatible with both Android and iOS devices. However, if you wish to use them with an iPhone or iPad, you’ll have to shell out an extra $59 for the Nreal Adapter. In addition, while the Nreal Air runs the company’s AR operating system, Nebula, when connected to an Android device, it only offers screen mirroring with iOS devices. Currently, Nreal has not shared any plans to bring its Nebula experience to iOS devices. Google tweaks last week’s Pixel Watch teaser to make its bezel look slimmer

Google shared a teaser showcasing the Pixel Watch’s design last week, giving us our first look at the watch’s unique twist-lock strap mechanism and confirming that it would feature Gorilla Glass protection. In addition, it showcased a couple of cool watch faces that will ship with the Pixel Watch.

While the black background of all the watch faces in the video made it difficult to tell where the display ended and where the bezel began, their diameter suggested that the Pixel Watch would likely have chunky bezels. This caused a huge uproar on social media, with some calling out Google for adopting a dated design on its premium smartwatch. The company seems to have paid attention to the feedback, as it has now uploaded an edited version of the teaser in which the watch faces take up more space, making the bezel look slimmer.

The edited teaser, published on the official Google Taiwan YouTube channel, was first spotted by a Reddit user (via DroidLife). It’s essentially the same video, but features a minor difference in the introduction and a few edited watch faces. As you can see in the attached screenshots, the watch faces in the updated teaser are significantly larger than the ones in the previous video. This makes it seem like the Pixel Watch will have a slimmer bezel.

Interestingly, Google only seems to have edited the frames in which the Pixel Watch is lying flat. The watch faces remain the same size in the frames where the watch is shown at an angle, leading us to believe that the new video could just be a rushed patch job in response to the social media outcry and the Pixel Watch might not have slimmer bezels after all. We’ll have to wait until the official announcement on October 6 to know for sure.

Clipchamp now gives Microsoft 365 users access to premium filters

Microsoft is starting to bring its Clipchamp video editor closer to the rest of the Microsoft 365 suite of products. The company has recently started offering access to premium filters and effects to users with a Microsoft 365 subscription, so you don’t need to pay extra for the Essentials plan to get access to them. The change, first spotted by Daniel Rubino of Windows Central, is the first major step in making Clipchamp a true part of Microsoft 365.

In the year since Microsoft first acquired Clipchamp, the video editor has seen some major changes that make it significantly better value. Prior to the acquisition, the free Clipchamp plan only offered 480p video exports, and there were a total of four pricing tiers available going up to a whopping $39/month. However, things quickly began to change, with 1080p video exports added to every tier, and more recently, a simpler pricing scheme with only one free plan and one paid (Essentials) plan.

For $11.99 per month, you can now get access to the full range of stock images, audio, and video, in addition to cloud storage for your files and projects. The Essentials plan also lets you create a brank kit so you can unify the branding across your videos more easily. Premium filters and effects are also part of the package, but now, that particular perk is given away at no additional cost if you have a Microsoft 365 subscription. If you’ve logged in with an account that has a subscription attached to it, you can see that change reflected in the pricing plans.

There are a total of eight filters and effects marked as premium in Clipchamp’s library. Additionally, there are a few premium sound effects in Clipchamp, which you can also access with a Microsoft 365 subscription.

As Microsoft tries to bring Clipchamp closer to its family of products and services, it wouldn’t surprise us to see even more capabilities available for Microsoft 365 subscribers in the near future. Google tests new in-app browser UI for Search and Discover

Google is reportedly testing a new in-app browser UI for Search and Discover. Instead of opening webpages in fullscreen, the new UI uses a sheet that doesn’t extend all the way to the top of the screen.

9to5Google reports that the new UI is appearing for some users running version 13.37 of the Google app. It either shows the Google logo or the current query as the background above the browser sheet. The browser sheet has a pull tab at the top to help you minimize it and return to the previous screen or extend it to hide the background, along with buttons to close the sheet, share a link, add a bookmark, and open the overflow menu.

As you can see in the attached screenshots, the sheet also shows a “Running in Chrome” prompt at the top while the page loads. This indicates that despite the new UI, the app still uses a Chrome Custom Tab. Furthermore, the publication reveals that the new UI adapts to the content you open and automatically expands videos to fullscreen for a better viewing experience.

In all honesty, I’m not a huge fan of the new UI and would much rather have web pages open in full screen. But given that the new UI brings all the controls closer to the bottom of the display, it could aid one-handed use on devices with large displays. In addition, it might make for a more intuitive browsing experience by providing some navigation context in the background. However, we’ll have to wait for a wider rollout to know for sure.
