Xiaomi launches the Redmi 10 in India, but its not the same device available internationally

Xiaomi launched the budget-friendly Redmi 10 globally in August last year. But the company didn’t bring the device to the Indian market at the time. Instead, Indian buyers got the Redmi 10 Prime a month after the initial launch, which was essentially the same device with a bigger battery. Xiaomi has now launched the vanilla Redmi 10 in India, but it’s not the same device that has been on sale in international markets for the last few months. Instead, the Redmi 10 (India) is very likely a rebranded Redmi 10C that was just launched in Africa some days ago.

The Indian variant of the Xiaomi Redmi 10 is very likely a rebranded Redmi 10C, which Xiaomi launched in some markets earlier this month. It shares some design elements with the international Redmi 10 model, but it has a different camera island design and more powerful internals. Instead of a MediaTek Helio G88 SoC, the Indian variant of the Redmi 10 packs Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 680 chip. The chipset is coupled with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage.

The Indian variant of the Redmi 10 packs a 6.71-inch HD+ LCD panel with a waterdrop-style notch and 60Hz refresh rate, a massive 6,000mAh battery with 18W charging support, a 50MP primary camera paired with a 2MP depth sensor, and a 5MP selfie shooter. The device also features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a single 1.5W bottom-firing speaker. On the software front, the Redmi 10 runs MIUI 13 based on Android 11.

Pricing & Availability

The Redmi 10 will go on sale in India starting March 24. It will be available in three colors — Midnight Black, Pacific Blue, and Caribbean Green — through Xiaomi’s website, Mi Home stores, Flipkart, and other offline retail outlets. Xiaomi is offering the Redmi 10 in two RAM/storage configurations, which are priced as follows:

• 4GB+64GB: ₹10,999 (~$145)
• 6GB+128GB: ₹12,999 (~$171)

Android 12L Beta 3 released for the Lenovo Tab P12 Pro

Android 12L Beta 3 is now available for the Lenovo Tab P12 Pro. You may be wondering why the Lenovo tablet is getting the beta update while the stable update is already out for the Pixel phones. And the answer is that Lenovo has lagged behind Google’s Developer Preview and Beta program from the very start. For example, Android 12L Beta 2 was made available for the Lenovo Tab P12 Pro two weeks after Google released it for its Pixel phones. And it’s the same case with the third and final beta update, which is coming a month later to the tablet.

If you own a Lenovo Tab P12 Pro and want to try out the Android 12L Beta 3, you can head to the Lenovo developer website to download the latest firmware. The image weighs 1.7GB in size, and Lenovo mentions it includes February 2022 security patches. The flashing instructions are as follows:

1. Download SW flashing packages and install & configure your PC environment by following the instruction inside the package.
2. Download and unzip the 12L Beta 3 image on your local drive, and then flash your device following the corresponding instruction in SW flashing packages.

In terms of changes, Android 12L Beta 3 doesn’t bring a whole lot. It fixes some bugs, including the one related to the At A Glance widget, screen-off animation, and system launcher. But other than that, there’s nothing new in terms of new features.

Android 12L Beta 3 will be the last beta update for the Lenovo Tab P12 Pro. Lenovo hasn’t disclosed when the final public release is coming, but hopefully, it’s just around the corner.

Android 12L is primarily designed for large screen devices and brings several UI changes and optimizations to provide an improved software experience on foldables and tablets. Notable features include a two-column layout for the notification shade and lockscreen, Activity Embedding, improved multitasking experience, etc.

iPhone 14 Pro CAD renders showcase its unique dual hole-punch cutouts

Apple might finally be ready to ditch the dreaded notch this year. As per recent reports, the company is planning to replace the notch on the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max with a unique hole+pill cutout solution. A new set of CAD renders of the iPhone 14 Pro confirm this new design approach and share some additional details about the device.

The following iPhone 14 Pro CAD renders (via 91mobiles) suggest that the device will feature two cutouts for the front-facing sensors right underneath the earpiece. It will have a pill-shaped cutout on the left and a circular cutout on the right, which will likely house all the Face ID sensors and the selfie shooter. Note that the orientation of these cutouts doesn’t match the image that DSCC’s Ross Young shared earlier this year. But that’s probably because the previous image showed the underside of the display.

Furthermore, the iPhone 14 Pro renders reveal that the device will have symmetrical bezels around the display, an earpiece at the top, volume buttons on the left edge, and the power button on the right. Its SIM slot and alert slider will sandwich the volume rocker on the left edge. Over on the back, the device will have a square camera island with three sensors, an LED flash, a microphone, and a LIDAR sensor. Lastly, the bottom edge will house the main speaker grille, primary microphone, and a lightning port.

91mobile‘s sources also claim that the iPhone 14 Pro will pack the same 6.1-inch display as its predecessor. However, they don’t shed more light on its specifications. We expect to learn more about the device in the coming months, and we’ll make sure to let you know as soon as we have more details.

Samsung set to go bullish on the Galaxy Z Flip 4

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 represented a pivotal shift for foldable phones, making them more mainstream and practical. The Galaxy Z Flip 3, in particular, was quite intriguing thanks to its relatively lower price tag compared to the more expensive Fold 3. And it looks like Samsung has even loftier goals for the next model in its clamshell lineup.

According to Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) CEO Ross Young, Samsung Display is expected to start shipping display panels for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 as soon as April. The timeframe is the same as the last year as Samsung had begun shipping out panels for the Galaxy Z Flip 3 in April as well. But Young notes that the order is expected to be much larger for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 at about 8.7 million panels. For reference, panel shipments for the Z Flip 3 were around 5.1 million.

Samsung Display is expected to begin panel shipments for the Z Flip 4 next month, same timing as the Z Flip 3 last year. But panel shipments are expected to be much larger. Expecting 8.7M panels in 2022 for the Z Flip 4 vs. 5.1M for the Z Flip 3 in 2021.

In other words, Samsung will reportedly order nearly 60% more display panels for the 2o22 model. This also indicates that Samsung has high hopes for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and expects it to perform even better in sales than the previous model.

At this point, we don’t know anything about the Galaxy Z Flip 4, including its design and hardware. But as we saw with last year’s models, there will be plenty of leaks and rumors of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 in the coming months leading up to their actual launch.

OPPO kicks off ColorOS 12 beta program for the OPPO A53s and Reno 4 Z

OPPO recently shared the ColorOS 12 beta release timeline for March 2022. According to the schedule, the Chinese OEM planned on releasing beta builds of its latest software to the OPPO A53s 5G, Reno 4 Z 5G, and the Reno 7 Pro 5G this month. In addition, the company shared details about the stable ColorOS 12 rollout for a few devices as well. As promised, OPPO has now opened the ColorOS 12 beta program for the A53s and the Reno 4 Z, giving users a chance to experience Android 12 ahead of the stable rollout.

Recent posts on OPPO’s community forums reveal that ColorOS 12 beta is now available for OPPO A53s users in India and Reno 4 Z users in Thailand and Phillippines. The beta program is limited to 5000 users for both devices, so you shouldn’t wait if you’ve been wanting to try out ColorOS 12 on your phone. However, note that since it’s a beta release, you might encounter some bugs. Therefore, we recommend waiting it out for the stable update if you’re using your device as a daily driver.

To register for the beta program, simply head over the “Software Update” section in the device settings, tap on the settings cog and select “Apply for Beta version.” Fill out the application on the following page, and you should receive the beta update on your device as soon as OPPO accepts your application. Before installing the update, though, make sure you take a backup of your data.

LG starts rolling out the first stable Android 12 update to the LG Velvet

Towards the end of last month, LG shared an update on its support website confirming that it would release the Android 12 update to the LG Velvet in Q1 2022. As promised, the company has now started rolling out the first stable Android 12 release for the device in its home market of South Korea.

According to a recent post on LG’s support website, the Android 12 update for the LG Velvet has started rolling out to some users in South Korea. At the moment, it isn’t clear if the update is available for all variants of the LG Velvet or not, but we expect to receive some clarification from the company when the update starts rolling out more widely.

LG Velvet’s Android 12 update brings all the new features Google introduced in Android 12. These include the Material You design changes, wallpaper-based theming, a new privacy dashboard, new widgets, and more. LG might have packed a couple of additional features in the release, but we can’t confirm that as of now. We’ll have to wait until the update starts rolling out in more regions to confirm if it includes any additional features.

For the unware, all variants of the LG Velvet launched with Android 10 out of the box. LG updated the devices to Android last year, and it has already confirmed that the devices will receive Android 13 as well. We’ll make sure to let you know as soon as the company releases more details about the upcoming updates.

It’s also worth noting that LG also plans to release security updates for the LG Wing, Q51, Q52, Q61, and Q92 in Q1 2022. However, the company is yet to share a definite release timeline for the same.

The first beta of Paranoid Android Sapphire is now available for the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro

The Paranoid Android team has just released the first beta build of Paranoid Android Sapphire ROM for the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. An Alpha release of the Android 12-based ROM has been available for both phones for some time now. However, the new beta version promises a more stable software experience.

As announced by XDA Recognized Developer arter97, the Paranoid Android Sapphire Beta is now available for the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. The new build incorporates several device-specific improvements, including revamped blobs, improved sleep mode, fingerprint scanner improvements, and a switch to arter97’s kernel. The Paranoid Android platform itself has received some notable features, too, such as Repainter integration, optimizations from ProtonAOSP, a burn-in protection feature for devices with OLED panels, the latest f2fs tools, and more.

There are still some know issues in the beta release. These include slow initialization of mobile data after reboot, Wi-Fi not working on a few reboots, and less than ideal pocket detection, which may accidentally wake up the device or trigger gestures.

Follow the thread linked below if you want to try out the Paranoid Android Sapphire Beta on your OnePlus 9/Pro. It contains the download link for the ROM and step-by-step flashing instructions. Although you can flash the beta build on your existing Sapphire Alpha installation, the developer notes that “a clean flash is highly recommended.”
