The Best Smartphone to buy in October: Apple, Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and more!

This has been a great year for smartphones so far — conventional slab phones are all extremely polished, and foldables are coming into their own. So if you’re looking to upgrade your phone, now is as good a time as any. We here at XDA test almost every smartphone on earth, so here’s our expert guide on the best smartphones — covering both the best Android and best iPhone — depending on your budget or need!

Navigate this article:

Best Overall Smartphone: Apple iPhone 13 Pro

iPhone 13 in Sierra Blue

Apple’s new iPhone 13 Pro takes this top spot because it offers much improved low light cameras over previous iPhones; a game-changing Cinematic mode that lends an air of authenticity to amateur videos; the most powerful mobile processor; and a price that seems reasonable by 2021 flagship standards. It’s not well into the four-digit pricing like some of the 2020 and 2021 premium flagships.

Of course, if you’re an Android fan, we’d recommend you take a look at our best Android smartphone list, but if you’re a general consumer looking for a phone that will work well, last you for years, keep its resale value, and have a strong hardware and software ecosystem around it, then look no further than the iPhone 13 Pro.

The iPhone 13 Pro is probably the best well-rounded smartphone right now.

Best Affordable Premium Smartphone: OnePlus 9 Pro

The OnePlus 9 Pro

This category is different from the above “best overall” category in that this is no longer looking at it from an average consumer perspective. This category is for people who follow the smartphone scene closely and want a phone that offers the best combination of specs, features, and value.

There were a lot of worthy contenders but the OnePlus 9 Pro is our choice in this spot. It’s got a brilliant 120Hz OLED display that’s almost as good as the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s (it falls short in peak brightness by a hair), premium build quality, excellent haptics, and a really strong main and ultra-wide camera. In fact, the only area in which the Galaxy S21 Ultra clearly beats the OnePlus 9 Pro is in zooming prowess. But then the OnePlus 9 Pro charges much faster and costs $250 less. So ask yourself, do you want sharp 10x photos or save $250?

There will be readers who push back at the idea of a $900-ish phone being called “affordable”, but four-digit pricing for top tier flagships have been a reality in the smartphone space for several years now. It’s worth remembering these are now cutting-edge personal computers. The OnePlus 9 Pro offers almost everything those four-digit phones do without crossing that mark.

Best Large Foldable Smartphone: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3

If you were interested in foldable phones before but had some concerns, the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 may change your mind. It took the already exceptional Z Fold 2 and adds official water resistance, more durable materials covering the hinge and screen, and support for the S-Pen. It’s the best mobile device for multi-tasking, and Samsung somehow managed to lower the price a little bit this time too.

With a Snapdragon 888, excellent speakers, and that large 7.6-inch screen, the Z Fold 3 is excellent for gaming or movie watching. While the cameras aren’t the best around, they’re still quite good and enough for most.

Best Small Foldable Phone: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3

the Z Flip 3 in flex mode

Do you think current slab smartphones have become too big to fit comfortably in your pocket? If so, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 is for you. A compact clamshell foldable that, when folded up, can fit into the breast pocket of a jacket or a small women’s purse, the Z Flip 3 is a compact yet powerful device.

The Z Flip 3 features a 6.7 inch 120Hz OLED display on the inside, and a 1.9 inch cover display that’s ideal for quick interactions with the phone when it’s closed. And because the phone can stay open mid-fold, it’s a great hands-free video watching or video call taking device too. With IPX8 water resistance and a durable hinge, the Z Flip 3 should ease fragility concerns.

Best Smartphone Camera: Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra held out in hand with a swimming pool in the background

Now that Samsung has confirmed there’s no new Galaxy Note phone this year, the Galaxy S21 Ultra will remain Samsung’s absolute apex slab top dog and best camera offering until possibly 2022. That’s okay because the Galaxy S21 Ultra is that good a phone. Other than objective opinions like “it’s too big” or nitpicky things like a split-second shutter lag, this is a phone that doesn’t have a weakness. It’s the apex slab smartphone.

It has the most versatile camera system around: four strong cameras that cover focal lengths from 13mm to 240mm (not even factoring in digital zoom). The main 108MP sensor captures razor-sharp photos during the day, and at night can make do without night mode trickery due to its large sensor size. The ultra-wide is not the best ultra-wide around, but it’s still very good in terms of maintaining the sharpness and keeping consistent color science. The two zoom lenses are the best the industry has to offer right now, especially the Periscope lens that can capture 10x optical zoom photos. In fact, even up to 20x digital zoom, photos remain very usable for social media. The Vivo X70 Pro+ is on track to unseat Samsung from this spot, but it is not available as widely as the Galaxy S21 Ultra is.

The rest of the phone is top-notch too — the best display in the industry, the best SoC in Android, and one of the longest-lasting battery lives in a flagship.

    Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra
If you care about smartphone photography, the S21 Ultra is for you.

Samsung makes a lot of different phones aimed at different markets. If you want to take a look at a narrower list, here are all the best Samsung Galaxy phones.

Best Big Phone: Apple iPhone 13 Pro Max

iPhone 13 Pro Max

Last year’s iPhone 12 Pro Max was already a very big phone, and this year’s iPhone 13 Pro Max one-ups it by adding a bit more thickness and weight. In return, you get a 120Hz screen and improved battery life over last year — two things that usually don’t go together.

The iPhone 13 Pro Max also improves on last year’s phone with a larger image sensor and faster ultra-wide lens, so expect superior low light photography compared to previous iPhones. Powering the phone is the Apple A15 Bionic, which is hands down the most powerful mobile processor right now. So if you want the biggest and best that Apple has to offer, this is it.

    iPhone 13 Pro Max
The iPhone 13 Pro Max is the phone to get if you want an unapologetically big smartphone.

Best Small Phone: Apple iPhone 13 Mini

The iPhone 13 Mini

The iPhone 13 Mini isn’t just small — it’s tiny. It’s a phone that most people will be able to use with one hand with ease. Despite its small size, it’s still among one of the most powerful phones around, thanks to that Apple A15 Bionic chip and well-optimized iOS. Apple’s even improved on the below-par battery life of the iPhone 12 Mini for this year’s update.

You get a pair of 12MP rear-facing cameras that, while not the most versatile system around, can capture awesome still photos and best-in-class videos. Starting at $799, this is also one of the cheaper iPhones around.

    iPhone 13 Mini
The iPhone 13 Mini is a very small phone with a lot of power.

Second-Best Small Smartphone: ASUS Zenfone 8

Obsidian Black ASUS ZenFone 8 on transparent background

With dimensions of 148mm x 68.5mm x 8.9mm and a weight of 169g, the ASUS Zenfone 8 isn’t quite as petite as the iPhone 12 Mini, but in the Android space, it’s still a breath of fresh air. Most adults should be able to use the phone one-handed with relative ease, as the 5.9-inch OLED screen doesn’t stretch too high up.

Despite the small size, the phone packs Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 888 SoC with a 4,000 mAh cell and copious amount of RAM. You also have a 64MP main camera, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a headphone jack! If you are tired of big Android phones, this is the one to get.

    ASUS Zenfone 8
The ASUS Zenfone 8 is the rare Android flagship with a screen under 6-inches and weight under 180g.

Best Mid-Tier Smartphone: Samsung Galaxy S20 FE

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE was highly popular last year because it offered a flagship SoC and 120Hz Samsung AMOLED screen at a much lower price than the company’s top-tier Galaxy S and Note phones. In April 2021, the Galaxy S20 FE’s Snapdragon 865 can no longer be called flagship level, so this phone is now firmly a mid-ranger, which is a fitting place for this plasticky device anyway.

Still, that 120Hz screen is as vibrant as ever, and while the cameras here aren’t as groundbreaking as the S21 Ultra’s, it’s still very capable and versatile. If you want the Samsung flagship experience at a discount, this is worth a look.

    Galaxy S20 FE at Samsung
The Galaxy S20 FE is a near-flagship quality Samsung phone at a good price. You get a lot of premium features seen on more expensive phones, at a much lower budget. For some users, the polycarbonate body is also a plus.

Best Unconventional Smartphone: LG Wing

The LG Wing in swivel mode showing two screens

When LG released the weird Wing last year with its swivel design that revealed a second screen, it appeared to be a comeback of sorts for the South Korean tech company, whose mobile division had fallen on hard times.

Little did we all know, the LG Wing would be the last LG smartphone, with the announcement that LG electronics is closing its mobile department. For a farewell product, the LG Wing is very noteworthy — it may not have the best cameras or processor, but it has a unique design that is not only a breath of fresh air in the sea of familiar slabs but also genuinely useful for people who frequently multitask.

LG promises continued software support for its already released products, so interested consumers have some assurance on that end.

    LG Wing
The LG Wing is special not just because of its dual screen T-shaped design, but also because it's the last LG phone for the foreseeable future.

Best Gaming Phone: ASUS ROG Phone 5 Ultimate

ASUS ROG Phone 5 Ultimate review

If you do lots of mobile gaming and want a device that can keep up, then look no further than the ASUS ROG Phone 5. Between the blazingly fast and buttery smooth 144hz display, large 6,000 mAh battery, dual front-facing stereo speakers, up to 18GB of RAM, and touch-sensitive shoulder buttons, there isn’t a smartphone out there more equipped to handle mobile gaming.

    ASUS ROG Phone Ultimate
ASUS ROG Phone 5 Ultimate is, as the name implies, the ultimate gaming phone with up to 18GB of RAM.

Best Budget Smartphone: OnePlus Nord N10

oneplus nord n10 5g product image

Retailing for $299, it’s hard to find a phone at this price point (in the US) that’s more capable than the OnePlus Nord N10. For a quarter of the price of an iPhone 12 Pro Max or Galaxy S21 Ultra, you’re getting a 5G-ready handset with a 90Hz OLED display and a multi-camera system that offers a solid wide and ultra-wide camera.

    OnePlus Nord N10
The OnePlus Nord N10 is the most affordable 5G-ready, high-refresh screen phone available in the US.

One thing to note, even the very definition of “budget” differs from person to person, and a singular choice may not be able to properly appreciate the nuances of all individuals. If you’re looking for more options, here are some other great cheap Android phones for you to consider.

Best Smartphone not sold in the US: Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra

Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra's camera module

Featuring a Snapdragon 888, 120Hz OLED display, a 50MP with the largest image sensor in the smartphone space, and a capable ultra-wide and Periscope zoom lens to boot, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra may be the one slab phone that can challenge the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra for slab phone supremacy.

If you’re into selfies, there’s also a second display located on the camera island module so you can take selfies with the main camera system (there’s still a selfie camera on the front side of the device if you prefer to shoot the traditional way).

The Mi 11 Ultra isn’t selling in North America, but it’s available in China, chunks of Europe, and Southeast Asia, and will soon be available in India. So importing one shouldn’t be difficult — if you’re ready to pay the Samsung/Apple-level four-digit price.

    Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra
The Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra is a culmination of the company's best hardware in a smartphone yet, featuring a great display, a great camera setup, great performance, and more.

Second-Best Smartphone not sold in the US: OPPO Find X3 Pro

OPPO Find X3 Pro camera system

In our review, we called the OPPO Find X3 Pro the phone with the best ultra-wide camera around, and that title still stands. That’s because OPPO uses the exact same Sony IMX 766 sensor for both the main and ultra-wide cameras. This also means there’s more consistency between photos captured by the main and ultra-wide camera.

Elsewhere, the Find X3 Pro has a brilliant 120Hz, WQHD+ 10-bit display panel that can display over a billion colors, and is powered by all the latest components like Snapdragon 888 and UFS 3.1. There is also a never-before-seen microscope camera that allows the phone to capture eerily close-up shots, like the ability to capture individual strands of fabric in your shirt. It does lose out to the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra in zooming capabilities, hence this runner-up spot.

    OPPO Find X3 Pro
OPPO's latest is a highly polished smartphone with a true 10-bit display that allows it to display over one billion colors.

There are a lot of good phones to choose from right now, and we hope this guide helped. We will update this guide every month as we test more phones, so be sure to check back often. Let us know which phone you’re using now and which one you’d consider as your next phone!

You’ll soon be able to walk into a Best Buy to set up an EIP on T-Mobile

T-Mobile is moving quick to solidify their retail presence, and soon you will be able to set up an EIP, short for Equipment Installment Plan, at select Best Buy stores.

According to our sources, Best Buy stores that are selling T-Mobile service will begin offering the same EIPs and promos that brick and mortar T-Mobile stores offer. This means deals like their iPhone 13 “On Us” promotions and other phone deals that can be found on the T-Mobile website will now be available at a store other than standard T-Mobile stores.

An Equipment Installment Plan, or EIP, is the term for T-Mobile’s device installments. Customers can split the cost of a new device over 24 (or sometimes 30) months with zero interest. These installment plans are usually required when taking advantage of T-Mobile’s phone promotions, as the discounts are applied as a monthly credit over the length of the EIP term.

The expansion of T-Mobile into “National Retail” stores, namely Best Buy and Walmart, began earlier this year. Walmart stores servicing T-Mobile will also let customers set up an EIP in the near future, though no solid date is known as of yet.

EIPs are set to be available in Best Buy stores that offer T-Mobile services on October 6th.

These are the best Xbox Series X, S, and Xbox One Games to play in Fall 2021!

Whether you’ve just picked up a precious Xbox Series X/S, or you’re an Xbox One gamer who wants to know what to play next, we’ve got you covered. We’ve listed out the 23 games you must play if you’re an Xbox console owner.

The Xbox Series X is one of the most powerful consoles ever created, and the Xbox Series S is no slouch either. They promise updated graphics and low loading times. That said, there are no next-generation exclusives on Xbox Series X. Not only can (almost) all Xbox One games be played on the Series consoles, thanks to backward compatibility, but every game on this list is also playable on the Xbox One. There may be next-generation exclusives in the future, but at the moment Xbox appears to be keeping game releases as inclusive as possible.

Also, for the sake of brevity, we’re not going to be including backward-compatible games or games available through Xbox Game Pass. We’re only including games you can purchase for your Xbox One or Series X/S now.

So, in no particular order, here are the 24 best Xbox games you can buy right now for your Xbox One or Xbox Series X/S console.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection

Accept no substitutes. When you want to play the best Microsoft has to offer, an experience you won’t get on a PlayStation or Nintendo console, you start with Halo. The Master Chief Collection includes Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo Reach, and Halo 4. Each game has updated graphics and audio, meaning you’re getting the best version of each game.

The collection gets regular updates, with Halo Reach having been added in 2019, a full five years after the MCC was originally released. As a bonus, Halo 5: Guardians, the only mainline Halo game that’s not currently included in the MCC, is currently available for Xbox One as well, so you can play the whole series before the next game, Halo Infinite is released.

A compilation of classic Halo games available for the Xbox One and Series X/S consoles, in which you follow the long journey of Master Chief.

Doom Eternal

Doom is a gaming franchise as old as dirt, and yet it’s still surviving and thriving on current consoles. The latest in the series, Doom Eternal, is one of the best action shooters available on current consoles. You play as the Doom Slayer, who’s going to fix the demonic invasion of Earth even if it means ripping and tearing through every hellspawn personally.

If the exciting gameplay isn’t enough for you, Eternal actually has a good story to go along with the action — though not a particularly serious one. It’s mostly a fun romp, following the Doom Slayer’s murderous journey, with a rare moment of pathos as a bonus.

    Doom Eternal
A gloriously violent action game in which you must eradicate a demon invasion personally.

Devil May Cry V

devil may cry 5 - heroes

Devil May Cry is one of the best action game franchises of all time, and Devil May Cry V is arguably the best of the franchise. You play as three different demon hunters clearing a ruined city, each with their own agenda and secrets. It’s a good entry point into the series for newcomers, as the first character you play is Nero, who has no connection to the ongoing storyline.

The combat is the real meat-and-potatoes of the game, and it’s great for both beginners and action game veterans. You can play it hacky-slashy-button-mashy if you’re new and don’t know any better, and that’s completely viable. But if you know what you’re doing, you’ll discover a wealth of strategies to get your scores as high as possible.

    Devil May Cry 5
The magnum opus in the Devil May Cry action series, stuffed with great combat and fan service.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The Witcher 3 has accrued every accolade you can imagine and has been called one of the best fantasy RPGs ever made, and it deserves all of that praise. Playing as Geralt the Witcher in his journey to find his daughter Ciri is an experience no gamer should miss, and the game looks especially gorgeous on the Series X graphics.

Now, with the next-generation update, you can play the complete game with all of its DLC, with each of the latter almost being small games onto themselves. If you’re looking for a good fantasy game to play on Xbox and for some reason you haven’t played Witcher 3 already, it’s a must-buy.

    The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
One of the greatest RPG adventures and fantasy games available on this generation of consoles.

Cuphead

Cuphead was one of the most interesting indie games when it was originally announced. An indie platformer designed to look like an old-school cartoon, it was visually distinct from any other game that debuted at the same show. You play as Cuphead — or, if you’re a co-op partner, Mugman — beating a series of wacky bosses to settle your debt to the devil.

If you want a challenge, Cuphead is a title that will work for you. It’s a tough game, both in the boss arenas and in the platforming levels. It’s also very satisfying to beat, especially if you’re playing with a co-op partner.

    Cuphead
Xbox's quirky and challenging cartoon platformer is one of the most fun games to look at.

Minecraft

What can one say about Minecraft that hasn’t been said before? The game in which you create your own world and space is still a must-play ten years after it was originally released. It’s a staple that belongs on every console, and you should definitely play it if you’ve avoided it thus far.

Minecraft remains one of the biggest and most influential games of the last decade, and it’s inspired multiple spin-off games. If vanilla Minecraft isn’t your thing, you can also try out the dungeon-crawler Minecraft Dungeons, also available on Xbox.

    Minecraft Master Collection
One of the most influential sandbox crafting games of all time, where gamers can build and create to their heart's content.

Titanfall 2

titanfall 2 titans

The original Titanfall was exclusive to Xbox, and while its sequel is not, it’s still a great game to play on Xbox. The movement system in Titanfall 2 is a combination of first-person shooter gameplay and parkour that’s a blast to play. The multiplayer scene is also still well-populated, even years after the game’s release.

Titanfall 2 also has something the first game didn’t — a good story campaign. You play Jack Cooper, a soldier who becomes the de facto pilot of Titan BT-7274. Their adventure and friendship, while perhaps not the most original story, is very well-told and fun to play.

    Titanfall 2
A great mecha action-adventure game with fun multiplayer and an enjoyable single-player campaign.

Resident Evil 2 Remake

The Resident Evil series has produced some of the best horror games in gaming history, and the remake of Resident Evil 2 takes an already great horror game and upgrades it for a new generation. If you want a game on your Xbox that’ll spook you, you need to get this title.

You play as Claire Redfield and Leon Kennedy, who have both turned up in Raccoon City at the worst possible time — the city is overrun with zombies. Seeking shelter in the police station — which isn’t much of a shelter, as it’s also crawling with nasties — the two must attempt to get to the bottom of the outbreak while not dying to the horrible monstrosities that dog their every step.

    Resident Evil 2
A remake of one of the greatest survival horror games that is itself one of the greatest survival horror games.

Red Dead Redemption 2

Rockstar open-world games are a good inclusion to any game library. While Grand Theft Auto V has been consistently good across three console generations, it’s Red Dead Redemption 2 that we recommend for its involving story about the fall of a band of scoundrels in the Old West. The tale of Arthur Morgan and his doomed posse is good enough on its own — sad, but good.

If you reach the end of the campaign and still can’t get enough of the gameplay, then you can jump into Red Dead Online, the Old West version of the chaotic craziness that is GTA Online.

    Red Dead Redemption 2
Rockstar's latest open-world adventure, set in the tragedy and beauty of the Old West.

Monster Hunter World

The Monster Hunter series has always been a Nintendo franchise, so World coming to Xbox is a coup that Xbox gamers should take advantage of. In case you haven’t heard, Monster Hunter is a game in which you hunt monsters — massive monsters that can easily devour you. To combat them, you basically run with the biggest weapons imaginable strapped to your back.

If you have any fondness for RPG tropes, open worlds, or giant monsters, this is a game you have to play.

    Monster Hunter World
The open-world RPG in which you track and kill massive creatures and loot their bodies for materials.

Firewatch

Indie titles, especially the so-called “walking simulators” may not be the most exciting games to come to the console, but Firewatch is still a must-play for its beauty and its involving, if quiet story. You play as Henry, who’s searching for something even he’s not sure of, and has taken a job at a firewatch tower in a forest.

There are slight elements of horror to the game, but it’s not particularly scary. If anything, it’s kind of sad — a story about lonely people and isolation. It’s also not a particularly long game, which means it’s a great title if you’re pressed for time and just want something you can finish.

    Firewatch
A beautiful indie walking simulator in which you must confront loneliness and personal tragedy.

Hollow Knight

There are a number of games that are challenging on the Xbox consoles, but one that’s both fun to play and has great art design is Hollow Knight. You play as the titular Knight, exploring Hallownest, confronting massive bosses, and accruing new abilities that open up new areas in which to platform.

The limited color palette and atmosphere of the game are what set it apart from its fellows. It’s also received a lot of updates since launch, meaning you’ll be able to keep playing it for a long time.

    Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition
A challenging indie platformer about battling bosses and exploring a darkly beautiful world.

Overcooked

If you’re looking for a game to play with friends, and you don’t mind a title that’ll give you as much frustration as it does amusement, Overcooked is a good game to get. You (and up to three partners) must attempt to cook meals in the most chaotic kitchen imaginable.

Overcooked is a couch co-op title, meaning you can play it with a partner next to you. While there aren’t as many couch co-op titles as there are online multiplayer games, they do exist, and Overcooked is one of the more entertaining ones on Xbox.

    Overcooked! + Overcooked! 2
A co-op title in which you and partners have to cook under the strangest and most chaotic kitchens.

Divinity: Original Sin 2

divinity original sin 2

Credit: Larian Studios

If first-person shooters or third-person adventures aren’t your things, try a good, old-fashioned top-down RPG. Divinity: Original Sin 2 is one of the best games to come from Larian Studios. You pick your origin story, which will affect how you’re treated for the rest of the adventure.

If the above-mentioned RPG games like Monster Hunter or Outer Worlds aren’t your thing, this is a little more of a pure experience. It’s also a co-op game that can be played with two players on split-screen or with up to four players online.

Divinity: Original Sin 2 Definitive Edition
A top-down fantasy RPG in which your origin story is one of your biggest choices.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

This list wouldn’t be complete without the inclusion of an Assassin’s Creed title, and the most recent game, a Viking adventure that takes the best mechanics from its two predecessors, is the title Xbox gamers should play. Valhalla is the usual Ubisoft sandbox title. You, as the Viking Eivor, explore the world, find treasure, kill targets, and sail the seas on your ship. It’s the same gameplay formula the series has had since Black Flag, but in Valhalla, it’s at its most beautiful and enjoyable.

If you’re a newcomer to the series, it’s also a good place to start as it’s fairly separate from the ongoing AC story.

    Assassin's Creed Valhalla
The latest in the Assassin's Creed series, in which you play a Viking warrior exploring England.

Keep in mind this is just scratching the surface. There are thousands of games available to Xbox gamers, and that’s not even getting into the games that come with an Xbox Game Pass subscription, which can give even a cheap gaming laptop a library comparable to the Xbox consoles at a single monthly price. But we think this list will be enough to get you started and hopefully help you get the most out of your Xbox console.

The Best Screen Protectors for your Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite in Fall 2021: Spigen, Hori, and more!

When you drop a few hundred dollars on a new piece of tech, you’re probably going to want to protect your purchase from scratches and dings. The Nintendo Switch is no exception! Since Nintendo has abandoned the clamshell design of the Nintendo DS line, Switches are prone to their screens getting scratched up if you carry them with you on the go. Actually, they can even be scratched when they are just sitting in the dock! It’s not the best.

Screen protectors are an easy and often cheap way to protect the Switch’s screen. Check out our picks for the best Nintendo Switch screen protectors below! Apart from screen protectors, if you’re looking for other accessories for your Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite, we’ve compiled a list of the best cases and the best grips for the consoles.

iOS 15 users can now easily report App Store scams

Only a few days ago, Apple finally started allowing users to rate and review its preinstalled apps. System apps, such as Weather, Safari, and more, can now be evaluated like any other third-party apps on the App Store, which will help Apple gain some valuable feedback. It seems like the company is focusing on giving users more options to easily leave feedback on apps, as it has now introduced another significant change on the App Store. According to recent reports, iOS 15 users can now report scams on the App Store, even if they don’t fall for them.

As Richard Mazkewich and scam hunter Kosta Eleftheriou have reported on Twitter (via The Verge), Apple has added a Report a Problem button to individual listings on the iOS 15 App Store. When clicked, the button redirects users to an external website with a drop-down menu that includes a Report a scam or fraud option.

Previously, users could only report a Quality issue if they had fallen for the scam and paid money. So reporting obvious scams without paying for an in-app purchase or the app itself was not possible. With this new change, all users will get the chance to flag a suspicious app, even without buying any digital goods from it.

As The Verge notes:

Until iOS 15, the only way you could find this button was to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the Apps or Games tab in the App Store, get kicked out to a website where you’d need to re-sign in. Then you could pick from “Report suspicious activity,” “Report a quality issue”, “Request a refund” or “Find my content.” None of the options offered a clear way to report a scam, and the “Report suspicious activity” would redirect you to Apple Support instead.

It’s worth mentioning that Apple only has 500 human app moderators, compared to the thousands in other companies like Facebook and Google. So how quickly or effectively Apple will respond to these scam reports is yet to be seen.

What do you think of this new change? Have you ever fallen for an App Store scam? Let us know in the comments section below.
