OnePlus 9 series color options detailed, may bring along OnePlus 9R and OnePlus Watch too

OnePlus’s upcoming flagship lineup has leaked heavily over the past few months, leaving little to the imagination. Leaks so far have pointed that OnePlus is planning to launch three new smartphones under the OnePlus 9 series: a regular OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro, and a third Lite version. OnePlus has yet to confirm an official launch date, but it’s widely expected that it will hold a launch event sometime in March. Now, a new leak has revealed OnePlus will indeed reveal its new smartphone series in March and will also have a fourth new product alongside it.

According to Ishan Agarwal, OnePlus is planning to launch as many as four products at its launch event in March, including the OnePlus 9, OnePlus 9 Pro, OnePlus 9R, and OnePlus Watch. The OnePlus 9R moniker was recently revealed by Evan Blass, putting an end to previous reports that claimed the phone would be named OnePlus 9E or 9 Lite. According to 91Mobiles, the OnePlus 9R will feature a 6.5-inch full HD+ display with a 90Hz screen refresh rate, Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 SoC, 8GB RAM, a 64MP primary camera, and a 5,000mAh battery.

As for the OnePlus Watch, we already knew the company has been working on a smartwatch since last year. But it looks like the OnePlus 9 series launch event is when we will finally get to see the company’s first-ever smartwatch.

In a separate leak, OxygenUpdater has unearthed possible color variants of the OnePlus 9 series. According to them, the OnePlus 9 regular model and Verizon model will be offered in three colors, while the T-Mobile variant will come in two colors. As for the Pro model, the unlocked OnePlus 9 Pro will be available in three colors while the T-Mobile version will come in only one color. Here are all the possible color variants and codenames Oxygenupdater found in the Engineering Mode APK:

Device Codename Colors
OnePlus 9 lemonade Astral Black, Arctic Sky, Winter Mist
OnePlus 9 (T-Mobile) lemonadet Astral Black, Winter Mist
OnePlus 9 (Verizon) lemonadev Gloss black, Gloss gradient purple
OnePlus 9 Pro lemonadep Stellar Black, Forest Green, Morning Mist
OnePlus 9 Pro (T-Mobile) lemonadept Morning Mist

We still have to wait on the company to provide a clearer picture, but it does looks like they plan to get busy very soon.

Apple iPad Pro with mini LED, new processor similar to M1 launching this year

Apple launched various products last year despite the pandemic, and the same is expected to happen in 2021 as well. Apart from the new iPhones later in the year, we have also heard and reported around upgrades from various Mac products, including larger and more powerful MacBook Pro models, new MacBook Air, iMac, and Mac Pro. A report now suggests Apple is also preparing to launch updated iPad Pro models this year.

A video by Mark Gurman from Bloomberg hints that we can expect a new line of iPad Pro this year. The updated models are expected to have a similar design as the 2020 iPad Pro 11 and iPad Pro 12.9 with slight changes. We can expect the display on the larger model to be upgraded to mini-LED. While this might add a bit of thickness to the design, it should give a major boost to the brightness and contrast of the display. The new iPad Pro models could also come with newer cameras and hopefully retain the LiDAR scanner.

The biggest update for the new iPad Pro models could be on the processor side. Gurman says that Apple will be introducing a new processor, which could be similar to the M1 Silicon that was introduced last year on the MacBook Pro 13, MacBook Air, and the Mac mini. Apart from offering improved performance, we can expect support for 5G connectivity. The shift to the new chipset also means that Apple could finally enable Mac interoperability, allowing macOS apps to run on iPadOS and vice-versa.

Lastly, there could be a new entry-level iPad coming later this year, although there is no substantial information around the product. Surprisingly, there is no information regarding the iPad mini from Gurman, which hasn’t seen an update since 2019. However, Gurman suggests that the company is working on a mixed reality AR VR headset system that could arrive by 2022. It will be costly and focus on gaming and communication features. Further, Apple might also have plans to launch AR glasses that could add an overlay for texts, maps, and notifications.

OPPO will officially unveil the Find X3 series on March 11th

OPPO has finally confirmed that it will unveil the Find X3 series on March 11th. The company shared this information in a recent tweet, with a poster showcasing what looks to be the unusual camera bump that we recently spotted in leaked images of the Find X3 Pro.

For the unaware, OPPO will launch three devices as part of the Find X3 series — Find X3 Pro, Find X3 Neo, and Find X3 Lite. While we don’t know much about the Find X3 Neo at the moment, both the Find X3 Lite and Find X3 Pro have leaked extensively over the last few months and we know pretty much everything about them. Previous leaks suggest that the Find X3 Lite will be a rebranded Reno5 5G, with minimal design changes. It will feature the same 6.3-inch AMOLED display as the Reno5 5G, with a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels, a 90Hz refresh rate, and a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera.

The OPPO Find X3 Lite will come with Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 765G chip, coupled with 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of onboard storage. It will be powered by a 4,300mAh battery, which will support OPPO’s 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging tech. For photography and videography, the device will offer a quad-camera setup on the back, consisting of a 64MP primary camera, an 8MP wide-angle camera, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro camera. Over on the front, it will feature a single 32MP selfie shooter. The device will reportedly be available in three colorways — galactic silver, azure blue, and starry black.

The more premium OPPO Find X3 Pro will feature significantly better hardware. Leaks suggest that it will feature a 6.7-inch WHQHD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and support for “adaptive dynamic frame rate” between 10-120Hz. The Find X3 Pro will pack Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 888 chip, coupled with a respectable 4,500mAh battery with 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging support.

Leaked renders and promotional images of the Find X3 Pro reveal that it will feature an unusually shaped camera bump on the back with a quad-camera setup. The camera system will pack two unannounced 50MP sensors from Sony (IMX766), a 3MP macro camera with 25x zoom capabilities to help you get really close to the subject, and a 13MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. OPPO has also confirmed that the Find X3 series will support end-to-end 10bit color support from capture, storage, to display. OPPO calls this its Full-path Color Management System. You can learn more about it by following this link.

These are the best laptops you can buy in March 2021: Dell XPS, ASUS ROG, HP Spectre and more!

Apart from many tasks that one can achieve from a notebook, the best smartphones have gone way beyond. You can click amazing pictures and videos, binge watch your favorite TV shows, or even pay money without ever reaching for your wallet. But even to this date, most people continue to rely on laptops to get their work done faster and more efficiently. The initial days of the Covid-19 lockdown saw a decline in smartphone sales due to obvious reasons. However, at the same time, there was a huge demand for laptops as organizations scrambled to switch to a work from home setup.

There is a wide variety of laptops out there for almost every type of user. From gorgeous displays to long-lasting battery life, getting the right notebook is honestly not that difficult. Of course, you just need to look in the right place. It is best to assess all the factors before you go ahead and put your money down. Apart from choosing the right specs, you need to be mindful of the size and form factor. Of course, in the end, it all comes down to your needs and requirements. To make things easy, we have listed some of the best laptops that you should consider if you are planning to buy one in 2021. These are the best and top-of-the-line options in various segments.

Navigate this guide:

Best Overall Laptop: Dell XPS 13 9310

dell xps 13 9300

The XPS 13 has quintessentially been one of the most influential Windows laptops in the past few years. Known for offering a solid balance of style and performance, the all-new XPS 13 9310 model offers up to an 11th-gen Intel Core i7-1185G7 processor, 16GB 4267MHz of LRDDR4x memory, and 512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD. The sleek metal design complements the borderless display, which is also one of its highlight features. Speaking of which, Dell has been offering some of the best-looking displays on its XPS lineup. This one features a 13.4-inch 16:10 ratio screen, and you can opt for a 1200p or 2400p resolution. The port selection is limited to a couple of USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4, a microSD card slot, and a headphone and mic combo jack. Dell claimed battery life of up to 14-hours on the full-HD+ model which sounds great for all-day workloads. It is also Intel Evo certified which means that it is specifically recommended by Intel to offer a premium experience to the end-user.

    Dell XPS 13
The Dell XPS 13 is a highly recommended premium notebook that offers a solid balance of style and performance. It is also one of the best ultrabooks out there.

Best Portable Gaming Laptop: ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 (2020)

asus rog zephyrus g14

Probably one of the most eye-catching notebooks of 2020, the Zephyrus G14 from ASUS is quite a versatile machine. It offers a fairly sleek 14-inch design and is also loaded with powerful CPU and GPU options to fulfill your gaming needs. The solid build, battery life, and that unique dot-matrix display on the lid add up to what can be called the best everyday gaming laptop. Notably, ASUS is offering the machine with AMD’s powerful Ryzen 4000 processor options as well as a 120Hz display. The only gripe we have is that it does not come with a built-in webcam for your Zoom meetings. ASUS has also announced a new variant with the latest AMD Ryzen 5000 mobile processors, however, you need to wait before it reaches markets later this year.

    ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14
The ROG Zephyrus G14 has been one of the most praised laptops offering one of the most unique designs along with powerful CPU options from AMD.

Best Laptop for Mac users: Apple MacBook Pro 16

apple macbook pro 16

The biggest and most powerful MacBook in years, the MacBook Pro 16 is an easy recommendation for power users. The notebook has been applauded for finally bringing back the scissor-style keyboard switches. It also comes with some of the best speaker systems on any laptop on the market. Of course, being a MacBook Pro, you can expect this machine to glide through your audio, video, or photo editing tasks without working up a sweat. Apple has also gone all-out when it comes to the hardware offering up to an 8-core Intel Core i9 processor, up to 16GB of 2666MHz DDR4 RAM, further expandable, and up to a whopping 8TB of SSD storage. Though, if you can delay your purchase to the fourth quarter of the year, we hope to see even better MacBook Pros with Apple silicon in them.

    Apple MacBook Pro 16
The MacBook Pro 16 is the most powerful notebook from Apple. It is great for power users, especially if you are a creative professional.

Best 17-inch Laptop: Dell XPS 17

dell xps 17 9700

Dell reintroduced a 17-inch XPS laptop in the first half of 2020, almost 10-year after we saw the last model. Offering all of the best features that we have seen on the recent XPS lineup, the XPS 17 simply enlarges the package. It is available with up to a 10th-gen Intel Core-i9 processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 GPU making it an apt device for creative professionals and casual gamers. Additionally, you can expect the premium XPS styling, including the super-slim bezels, which reduces the laptop’s overall footprint down to a 15-inch notebook. This notebook is also a serious competitor if you are looking for a solid Windows alternative to the MacBook Pro 16.

    Dell XPS 17
Bringing the best of the XPS lineup, the XPS 17 is the best 17-inch laptop that offers the footprint of a 15-inch machine. It comes with an excellent display and a premium design that you cannot ignore.

Best Business Laptop: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon

lenovo thinkpad x1 carbon

The ThinkPad series is a no-brainer if you are looking for a solid business notebook. The X1 Carbon primarily witnessed under-the-hood upgrades in 2020, but that doesn’t make it any less of a recommendation. The 10th-Gen Intel vPro CPUs deliver only a slight performance boost compared to the previous generation. But if your business notebook is 3-4 years old, then the ThinkPad X1 Carbon is a wise choice. The laptop offers an ultraslim design that is highly durable, one of the best keyboards in its class, and good display options. We would also recommend looking at the HP Elite Dragonfly if you are willing to stretch your budget.

    Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon
The ThinkPad is a popular name when it comes to business laptops. The 8th-gen ThinkPad X1 Carbon is pretty much the same as the last year's model but brings new innards for improved performance.

Best Gaming Laptop: Razer Blade Pro 17

razer blade pro 17

Razer might still be an underdog, but the Razer Blade Pro 17 is undoubtedly the best gaming laptop out there. It has a fairly slim persona yet offers a healthy set of ports, including a full-size HDMI and Ethernet. There’s certainly some high-end hardware as well, including the options of a 300Hz display or a 4K 120Hz screen, NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q, and an eight-core Intel Core i7-10875H processor with 16GB RAM. If you want to go all-out, you can look at the Alienware m15 R3 or even the Gigabyte Aero 17. Still, in our opinion, Razer is offering a wider option for gamers and creative professionals in a package that would appeal to a wider audience.

    Razer Blade 17 Pro
The Razer Blade 17 Pro is the ultimate gaming machine that combines a stealthy look and beastly performance. Razer is offering this notebook with up to a 300Hz display or a 4K 120Hz option which is quite something.

Best affordable laptop for Mac users: Apple MacBook Air (M1)

apple macbook air m1 xda

Apple announced the new MacBook Air back in November 2020 which was a part of its first wave of products running on its in-house chipset, the M1. Based on the 5nm node, the new M1 chipset is proving to be one of the biggest leaps for Apple in the computing world. It includes an 8-core CPU, a 16-core neural engine, and up to an 8-core GPU. Not only is the chipset offering better performance than the Intel processors, but it is also power efficient making the notebook last longer in terms of battery life. Now the overall design of the new MacBook Air is similar to the last-gen model, but anyone who is planning to get an affordable MacBook should not look any further. The notebook is available with 8GB of RAM and the option of either 256GB or 512GB SSD storage.

    Apple MacBook Air
The new MacBook Air with Apple's custom M1 chipset is a highly recommended notebook for someone looking to get into the Mac ecosystem and rock-solid performance for the price.

Best 2-in-1 Laptop: HP Spectre x360

hp spectre x360 13

If you are looking for the best 2-in-1 laptop that also looks impressive, then the HP Spectre x360 is a wise choice. Apart from offering strong performance, it features a vivid 13.3-inch 4K OLED touch display and an excellent keyboard. Compared to the previous-gen model, HP has trimmed down the areas around the display and keyboard, making it smaller in terms of the overall footprint. The notebook also offers fingerprint and face recognition for added security, while the improved trackpad offers a fluid experience.

    HP Spectre x360
One of the most premium 2-in-1 laptops, the HP Spectre x360 is for the ones who don't want to compromise on style and performance. It comes with a great 4K touchscreen display option along with Intel's latest 10th-gen CPUs.

Best Laptop on a budget: Acer Swift 3

Acer Swift 3 product image

A lightweight yet powerful laptop, the Acer Swift 3 comes at an affordable price of under $700. It isn’t the most premium ultrabook, but it is certainly the best laptop that you can put your money on if you don’t want to go overboard with your budget. It comes with a 14-inch full-HD IPS display and is powered by the AMD Ryzen 7 4700U octa-core processor, 8GB LPDDR4 RAM and a 512GB NVMe SSD. The laptop also features a backlit keyboard, a fingerprint scanner, Wi-Fi 6, and built-in Alexa voice assistant. If you care about Thunderbolt, the Acer Swift 3 is also available with the new Intel 11th-gen Core-i7 CPU with a Thunderbolt 4 port and Intel EVO certification.

    Acer Swift 3
The Acer Swift 3 is a reliable laptop at its budget. The notebook should offer you excellent performance thanks to the octa-core AMD Ryzen 7 CPU.

Best Chromebook: Acer Chromebook Spin 713

acer chromebook spin 713

Chromebooks are usually the best option for school and college students since they are usually cheap. Not the Acer Spin 713 though. It is one of the most powerful, pricey, and best Chromebooks out there. Since it is expensive, it also comes with powerful 10th-gen Intel CPU options going all the way from Core i3 to a Core i7. It also comes with a 13.5-inch 2256×1504 touchscreen, a 128GB NVMe SSD, and 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM, making it the fastest one out there. The Acer Spin 713 is also Project Athena certified, which means that it has a seal of approval from Intel when it comes to performance and battery life.

    Acer Chromebook Spin 713
The Acer Chromebook Spin 713 is one of the most powerful Chromebooks you'll be able to pick up today. With beefy specs that rival that of budget gaming laptops, performance will never be an issue.

Before you go ahead with any of the above-recommended notebooks, we would like you to know that CES 2021 wrapped up back in January with a wide variety of new notebooks. Expect these to arrive in markets soon featuring the latest hardware from Intel, AMD and NVIDIA. We will be updating this guide as new models and variants start hitting shelves so keep an eye out. But if you need a machine right this instant, these are our top picks for the best laptops that you can buy!

Google Chrome may soon default to desktop mode on large Android tablets

Google Chrome is experimenting with a new feature that will automatically open webpages in desktop mode on Android tablets that have a large enough display. The feature will essentially eliminate the need to manually check the “Desktop site” option in the browser and offer users a more streamlined experience overall.

We recently spotted information about this upcoming feature in the Chromium Gerrit, which sheds some light on its capabilities. As per the description, the feature will allow Google Chrome to automatically request the desktop version of a website when it detects that the device has a large enough display. While we aren’t sure of the size threshold at the moment, we believe that the feature will most likely be based on the resolution/DPI of the tablet. The description states:

“This CL will set up the experiment for requesting desktop site for tablets.
The experiment will have two comparable groups, enabled and control.
Both groups need to set header “X-Eligible-Tablet” depends on the screen size, but only enabled group will actually request the desktop site base on the screen size.
So enabled group will receive {“RequestDesktopSiteForTablets”, {“screen_width_dp”, ***}, {“enabled”, true}}
And control group will receive {“RequestDesktopSiteForTablets”, {“screen_width_dp”, ***}, {“enabled”, false}}”

It’s worth noting that the new feature is in its early stages of development, and we aren’t sure whether it will make its way to a stable Google Chrome release or not. But if/when it does, it will certainly be a great addition for those who own large tablets like the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7. We’ll update this post as soon as this feature is available in Chrome on the Canary channel.

Along with this new default desktop mode feature, Google Chrome is also experimenting with tab widths in the new tab scrolling feature. We learned about this change earlier this month, and it’s currently available on Chrome 90 on the Canary channel. The feature gives users the option to customize tab width in the browser, with four size variants to choose from — pinned tab width, medium width, large width, or no shrinking. Google will likely pick one of these size variants based on user feedback, but it’s possible that the company may provide multiple options when the feature becomes available in a stable build.
