Google Messages starts rolling out message scheduling for some users

Google recently started rolling out a new feature in the Google Messages app that lets you categorize your conversations to reduce clutter. While the feature is yet to make its way to all users, the company is now rolling out another new feature in Google Messages via a server-side update.

The feature was first spotted by Twitter user @besaireddy earlier today and, as you can see in the attached screenshots, it lets you easily schedule texts in Google Messages. To schedule a massage, you can press and hold on the Send button to bring up the new schedule message option. Tapping on the option will open a pop-up window with three preset schedules that you can choose to send your message “Later today, 6:00 pm”, “Later tonight, 9:00 pm”, or “Tomorrow, 8:00 am”.

In case you don’t want to use any of the predefined scheduling times, you’ll also be able to select a custom date and time by tapping on the fourth option. This will open up a different pop-up with two scheduling options for the date and time. After setting these parameters, you can tap on the Save button to set the schedule. The selected date and time will then show up right above the text box, and the SMS button will be updated with a clock icon. You can then tap on the SMS button to schedule your message.

All scheduled messages will show up in the chat with a clock icon next to them and “Scheduled message” written underneath. Tapping on the scheduled message will open up a pop-up that will let you update its content and schedule. It will also include options to delete the scheduled message or send it right away.

While the message scheduling feature isn’t widely available at the moment, we’ve verified that the latest Google Messages APK already includes code for the feature. This leads us to believe that the feature should roll out to more users in the coming weeks. It’s also worth noting that the feature works with normal text messages and doesn’t require RCS, like some other features available on the app.

Among Us update adds Anonymous Voting option, Task Bar modes, and more

Among Us developer Innersloth is rolling out an update with a few new features that may have a major impact on gameplay. The most noteworthy addition in the latest update is an Anonymous Voting mode which will let you vote against other players without revealing your identity. All votes cast with the mode turned on will be displayed in gray, instead of your character’s color. This will add another layer of complexity to the guessing game, and give the Impostors a chance to sneakily vote other players out without revealing their identity.

Along with the new Anonymous Voting mode, the update adds new Task Bar modes to the game. For the unaware, Among Us currently shows a Task Bar in the top right corner that fills up when crewmates complete tasks and it gives the Impostors an idea of the amount of time they have to execute other players before they lose the game.

With the update, Among Us is getting three Task Bar modes — always, meeting, and invisible. In the always mode, the Task Bar will be visible at all times like it is right now. But in the meeting mode, the Task Bar will be hidden until a meeting is called and in the invisible mode it won’t show up at all. While the meeting and invisible modes will put the Impostors at a significant disadvantage, they serve to balance out the edge Impostors get with the new Anonymous Voting mode.

Additionally, the update also brings cosmetic changes to the meeting view, new symbols in the fix wires task, and various bug fixes. Furthermore, sabotaging comms will now also clear the security logs.

In an announcement post regarding the update, developer Innersloth has also shared the future roadmap for Among Us. The game will get new account and friend list features before the end of the year, which will enable two new features — easy lobby creating and reporting toxic players. And in the coming months, the game will receive a larger Henry Stickmin-themed map with new tasks and larger lobbies. Innersloth is also working on translating the game into more languages. With declining interest in games like Call of Duty Mobile and PUBG Mobile, Among Us has emerged as one of the popular options for team-based gameplay.

Download: OnePlus 7 series and OnePlus 7T series receive new OxygenOS builds with bug fixes

OnePlus rolled out OxygenOS updates for the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T series earlier this month, featuring September 2020 security patches and a few other changes. Now, the company is rolling yet another update for the devices that addresses some of the bugs found in the previous update. Here’s the complete changelog for the latest OxygenOS update for the OnePlus 7 series and OnePlus 7T:

- Newly added user assistance feature to help user master usage skills quickly (Route: Settings > OnePlus Tips & Support)
- Optimized power consumption of the system and improve user experience (OnePlus 7 Pro Only)
- Fixed the issue that the alarm clock does not ring in certain scenarios

- Fixed the flashback issue with some third-party apps
- Fixed known issues and improved system stability

As you can see, the changelog for the latest update is largely the same as the one for the previous release. It just includes two additional items — “Fixed the issue that the alarm clock does not ring in certain scenarios” and “Fixed the unstable issue with Messages in special apps”.

OxygenOS 10.0.9 OnePlus 7 Pro EU changelog

The update has already started rolling out to users but, as with all OxygenOS stable releases, it’s being rolled out in a staged fashion. This means that the updates will reach only a handful of users today, and it should roll out to more users in the coming days.

Samsung Galaxy M21 gets the One UI 2.5 update with new keyboard and messaging features

Soon after the Galaxy Note 20 series launch in August this year, Samsung started rolling out One UI 2.5 to older Galaxy devices. Over the last few months, the update has reached quite a few of Samsung’s older flagships, tablets, and mid-range devices. However, the budget-centric Galaxy M series has been deprived of the One UI 2.5 update up until now. Instead of rolling out the latest One UI update to the Galaxy M series devices, Samsung recently pushed a One UI 2.1 update to the Galaxy M21 and Galaxy M31. Thankfully, the company is now finally getting around to pushing the One UI 2.5 update to the Galaxy M Series.

The Galaxy M21 is the first M series device from the company to receive the One UI 2.5 update. The update has the firmware version M215FXXU2ATJ5/M215FODM2ATJ5/M215FDDU2ATJ5 and it measures around 650MB. It brings Android security patches for October 2020, along with a couple of new features for the Samsung keyboard and the stock Messages app.

As you can see in the screenshots above, the One UI 2.5 update introduces split keyboard functionality in landscape mode and an updated search function for input languages for the Galaxy M21. It also includes a new feature for the Messages app that allows users to send SOS location-sharing messages every 30 minutes for 24 hours. Furthermore, the update includes improvements for the quality and stability of the camera app.

As with the previous One UI 2.5 releases for other devices, the update for the Galaxy M21 will be rolled out in a staged fashion. As such, it may take a few days before it reaches users in all regions. Grab yourself an Xbox One controller for your PC gaming, only $50 at Amazon

You can pick up all sorts of controllers and adapters to use just about any controller on your PC, but my favorite will always be the Xbox One controller. It simply works! Most PC games that support controllers are mapped with the Xbox One controller in mind, so there’s no weirdness or fuss. You either use a wireless adapter or plug a wire directly into your computer, and you’re ready to play!

There’s just one problem… those controllers can be expensive! But, with the Xbox Series X and Series S coming out soon, it seems Amazon is discounting the Xbox One controllers to clear out some stock! Some models of the controller are on sale for $50, $15 off their MSRP of $65. When it comes to first-party controllers, any discount is good, so make sure to grab one if you’ve been in the market for a new PC controller. This is all especially true if you have a Windows 10 computer, which has a lot of Xbox features built-in!

Of the $50 Xbox One controllers, my favorite color is probably the Grey and Blue one. It’s a nice dark grey with sharp blue accents. It’s not garishly colored, but the blue adds a flair most controllers don’t have. Even the buttons are completely grey, as to not to mess with the overall look. The Blue and Red controllers are also at $50, if you prefer the more bold colors as opposed to the muted greys and blacks. It all depends on your tastes!

Amazon doesn’t directly sell the wireless adapter anymore, but you can still get it new for a reasonable price from a third party seller.

OPPO rolls out ColorOS 11 based on Android 11 for the Find X2 Series

Oppo has started a stable roll-out of Colors 11, the skinned Android 11 based update for its Find X2 series. After being announced in September before a lengthy customer beta, the first variants and territories have started reporting availability today. Our XDA forum users in Switzerland, Germany, and the UK are among those who have confirmed the arrival of the OTA update, but it does seem to be a controlled trickle so your results may vary at the time of writing.

Colors 11, which follows on from Colors 7, in order to tally with the corresponding Android version brings a number of unique extras. The dark mode is more customizable, offering multiple color schemes (all including black, of course), while an always-on display option similar to that seen recently on the OnePlus 8T is available to models with AMOLED screens while at the other end of the spectrum, a new “Super Power Saving” mode reduces the screen to a minimum along with other resources. If used at 5% battery, Oppo says it will allow you an hour of talk time – great for those ‘stuck in the middle of nowhere’ moments.

An updated version of ambient soundscape app Oppo Relax lets you mix together sounds of nature into your own personal relaxation nirvana. Colors 11 also integrates a Google Lens-based instant translation feature accessed by taking a screenshot with 3-fingers and swiping upward. Flexdrop is Oppo’s new “windowed app” environment, which lets you shrink any app into a floating window, making it easier to multitask, while the Private System feature allows you to keep two different systems, making it easier to switch between work and play with just a scan of your fingerprint.

As ever, if you don’t have the new firmware on offer yet, you can try and force an update in the menus, and failing that, clear cache and try again. If neither works, and you don’t feel like sideloading it, hang in there, it shouldn’t be long now. Once the Find X2 series rollout is underway, the Reno 3 range is next on the list.

Github warns of bans for users still distributing YouTube-DL

Github, the open-source repository has issued a warning to users who are still redistributing the recently outlawed YouTube-DL app. After being banned under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DCMA) last month, the court ordered all instances of it to be taken down, which led to a so-called “Streisand Effect” – a term given to attempts to ban something, triggering even wider-spread sharing as a form of protest.

In a notice left on the Youtube-DL repository, users were warned: “If you are looking to file or dispute a takedown notice by posting to this repository, please STOP because we do not accept Pull Requests or other contributions to this repository”, adding: “Please note that re-posting the exact same content that was the subject of a takedown notice without following the proper process is a violation of GitHub’s Policy and Terms of Service. If you commit or post content to this repository that violates our Terms of Service, we will delete that content and may suspend access to your account as well.”

Github has something of a fight on its hands. It was estimated at the time of the ban that YouTube-DL was one of the most popular repositories on the entire platform, with 72,000 stars and 1.43k dependent repositories. Reaction to the decision to remove Youtube-DL on copyright grounds was met with protests, with many arguing that there were plenty of legitimate use cases for the software which didn’t justify the ban.

At first, Microsoft-owned Github was keen to work with its users, with an attitude of helping them fix their orphaned code, whilst keeping a “Don’t shoot the messenger” attitude.

However, as it has become clear that the quest to subvert the ruling, Github has been left with no choice but to move from ally to enforcer. It won’t have been their first choice, but rather a necessity to avoid being branded enablers to illegal activity – something which could prove more damaging in the long-term than upsetting its user base.
