Install Samsung’s One UI 3.0 apps on Galaxy devices running One UI 2.0

Samsung’s One UI is largely regarded as a user-friendly OEM skin, especially after considering its predecessors, i.e. TouchWiz and Samsung Experience. The latest iteration of this custom interface — One UI 3.0 — is based on Android 11, and it is currently available as public beta on the Galaxy S20 series. Those who don’t own the Galaxy S20 but would like to have the taste of Samsung’s latest software are in luck, though, as a whole bunch of stock apps from the beta firmware have successfully been ported to other Galaxy devices running One UI 2.0/2.1/2.5.

Released by XDA Recognized Developer AlexisXDA, the port is available as a set of two recovery-flashable ZIP files. The first one is required to remove the existing version of the target apps, while the second one pushes the ported apps to the /system partition. Below you can find the complete list of ported stock apps included in the package:

  • Clock
  • Messaging
  • Digital Wellbeing
  • Keyboard
  • Contacts
  • Gallery
  • New Bixby Routines
  • New Samsung Call Settings
  • Link Sharing
  • Finder
  • QuickBoard
  • Share Live
  • Samsung Browser

To install the modded apps, you need to unlock the bootloader of your Galaxy smartphone/tablet and replace the stock recovery image with a custom recovery like TWRP. Keep in mind that unlocking the bootloader alone is sufficient to trip KNOX, thus you will permanently lose access to Samsung Pay and security features such as Secure Folder. If that’s something that doesn’t bother you, head over to the XDA thread linked below and follow the instructions in the first post to get the apps up and running on your device.

One UI 3.0 Ported Apps — XDA Download and Discussion Thread

It is important to note the steps described above are intended for the global unlocked variants. Most of the U.S. carriers like to disallow bootloader unlocking, making it impossible to flash a custom recovery on carrier branded Samsung Galaxy devices. The restriction can be bypassed, but that’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

Gmail Go is a less bloated Gmail app that’s now available for all

Google offers quite a few ‘Go’ variants of its apps, which are designed for entry-level devices running Android Go. These include apps like Google Go, Google Assistant Go, Gallery Go, Google Maps Go, Google Camera Go, and many more. The company keeps adding new apps to the lineup ever so often, and it recently released a stripped-down version of the Gmail app on the Play Store. The new Gmail Go app brings a lighter Gmail experience for all devices, featuring just the essentials.

As per a recent 9to5Google report, the Gmail Go listing on the Play Store is nearly identical to that of the regular Gmail app, except for the new icon with a “Go” badge at the bottom. The listing specifies that Gmail Go offers the “Gmail you love, now lighter and just fast,” but it still features the same screenshots as the regular version. However, the app itself is quite different from the full-blown Gmail app.

Gmail Go

Gmail Go’s UI follows the same structure as the regular app, but it doesn’t include quite a few features. For instance, the app doesn’t feature a bottom bar because Google Meet has not been integrated into the app. The app’s UI elements are also flatter when compared to the regular Gmail app, with no layering or shadows. Instead, it makes use of a white outline for the search bar and Compose button to help them stand out.

Additionally, the report claims that the frame rate of the app has been capped so much so that it results in a perceptible lag when you scroll through the app. This is most likely a performance optimization that will benefit devices with low-end specifications. As mentioned earlier, the app isn’t restricted to Android Go devices and it’s available for all users. In case you’re not a fan of the regular Gmail app, you can give Gmail Go a shot by downloading it form the Play Store link below. In case the app isn’t available on your device, you can sideload it from APKMirror.

Here are the official OnePlus 8T renders from all angles

Over the last several weeks, we’ve seen a barrage of leaks and teasers about the upcoming OnePlus 8T. And so far, we’ve learned a fair bit about the upcoming device. We already know that the OnePlus 8T will feature a flat display with a hole-punch cutout and a max refresh rate of 120Hz. The device will feature Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 865 Plus chip and a quad-camera setup comprised of a 48MP primary sensor, a 16MP wide-angle sensor, a 5MP macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor.

Furthermore, we’ve seen renders of the device that showcase a design similar to the OPPO A72. And, on top of all that, a prematurely-published Amazon listing for the OnePlus 8T has confirmed that it will feature a 6.55-inch FHD+ display. OnePlus has also gone ahead and revealed some details about the display on the device, including its touch sampling rate of 240Hz, its JNCD of around 0.3, 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage, HDR 10+ support, a flicker-detect sensor, 8,192 levels of brightness adjustment, and enhanced blue light filtering. The company has also shared that the device will feature a 4,500mAh battery and support for 65W fast wired charging.

Now, just a few days ahead of the launch, OnePlus has unveiled an official render of the Aquamarine Green variant of the OnePlus 8T, and Chinese e-tailer JD.com has put up a listing for the device with renders that give us a clear look at it from all angles.

In a blog post on the OnePlus Community forums, the company’s CEO Pete Lau has shared a video showcasing the Aquamarine Green variant of the OnePlus 8T. Lau has also shared some interesting tidbits about the months-long process that resulted in this new finish. In the post, Lau notes:

“After exploring countless iterations with different CMFs (color, material and finish) for more than 4 months, we achieved a breakthrough and produced a remarkable glossy back cover for the new Aquamarine Green variant of the OnePlus 8T. This version takes advantage of diffuse reflection, a form of light refraction that scatters light in an expansive array of angles and directions, to produce a clean, gleaming surface that effectively mitigates the buildup of fingerprints.”

While the video shared by Lau only gives a brief glimpse of the Aquamarine Green OnePlus 8T, a JD.com listing for the device includes official renders of the new color variant from all angles.

Along with these official renders, a leaked render of the Lunar Silver variant of the OnePlus 8T has also surfaced online. This color variant seems to have a matte finish, as opposed to the glossy finish of the Aquamarine Green variant.

OnePlus 8T

OnePlus is scheduled to launch the OnePlus 8T on October 14th. The company is also expected to unveil the OnePlus Buds Z alongside its next-gen flagship.

Samsung launches the Galaxy F41 with an Exynos 9611 and 6000mAh battery

Samsung on Thursday introduced the Galaxy F41 in India, in what the company is describing is a device for “the lifestyle of young Gen Z and millennial consumers.” The device was developed in partnership with India’s Flipkart and is the first under the new mid-range F Series.

Here’s your first look at the upcoming OnePlus Buds Z

OnePlus is all set to unveil its next flagship — the OnePlus 8T — later this month. The company has already started dropping teasers for the device, some of which have confirmed that the device will feature a 4,500mAh battery and 65W fast charging support. Along with the OnePlus 8T, the company is expected to unveil its next pair of TWS earphones — the OnePlus Buds Z.

We first heard about the upcoming OnePlus Buds Z early last month, when XDA Senior Member Some_Random_Username spotted a mention of the device in an OxygenOS 11 beta release. While we’ve seen plenty of leaks and teasers about the OnePlus Buds Z since then, we’re yet to see any renders of the TWS earphones. That changes today, as Some_Random_Username has managed to extract images of the earphones from an APK shared by a reliable source.

OnePlus Buds Z

As you can see in the attached images, the OnePlus Buds Z look like a cross between the older OnePlus Buds and the Honor Magic Earbuds. While the earbuds retain most of the same design as the OnePlus Buds, they now feature silicone tips and a charging case that greatly resembles the Magic Earbuds.

OnePlus Buds Z

The charging case features OnePlus branding on the lid and it houses the earbuds horizontally. It has an LED indicator over on the front, a USB Type-C port on the back, and a single function button.

While the APK file mentions three color variants — Black, White, and Silver — it only includes images for the white and silver color variants.

Although the APK reveals no further information about the OnePlus Buds Z, the company has confirmed that the earbuds will be IP55 certified for dust and water resistance. It’s worth noting that the teaser also included an image with a silhouette of the OnePlus Buds Z, which falls in line with these images.

Out of the two, the cheaper TCL 10 TabMid featured an 8-inch FHD+ display, Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 665 SoC, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, and a 5,000mAh battery. The company has now launched a tablet with similar specifications in the US, called the TCL TAB.

The new TCL TAB features the same overall design as the TCL TabMid, with an 8-inch FHD+ display on the front surrounded by chunky bezels. However, over on the back, the TCL TAB features a plain black finish with Verizon branding, instead of the dark blue finish we saw on the TabMid. The company has also made some minor changes to the specifications, and the TCL TAB only packs in 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. But on the bright side, it includes a larger 5,500mAh battery.

Other than these changes, the TCL TAB is largely the same as the TCL TabMid. It is also powered by the Snapdragon 665 chipset, it features a single camera module on the back with an 8MP sensor, and it packs in a 5MP selfie shooter. Other features include a USB Type-C port for charging and data syncing, 802.11 b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.0. In terms of software, the TCL TAB runs Android 10. The company has also promised at least one major OS update and quarterly security patches for a minimum of two years for the device.

Pricing & Availability

The TCL TAB will be available exclusively on Verizon in the US, which means that it comes with a host of preloaded Verizon apps. These include Digital Secure, Ignite, My Verizon, Verizon Cloud, and Verizon Messages+. The tablet is priced at $199.99, and it will be available for purchase at Verizon stores and other online retailers starting today. As mentioned earlier, the tablet will be available in a single Suede Black color variant.
