Red Magic 5G Lite launches in Spain with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G and 120Hz display

Nubia’s Red Magic series has been in the news a lot recently, specifically thanks to the Red Magic 5G. Originally launched in March, Nubia’s flagship gaming smartphone with a 144Hz display has slowly been made available in more regions and color options. Now, the company is announcing the Red Magic 5G Lite, a phone very similar to the Nubia Play.

As the “Lite” name implies, this is a slightly downgraded gaming phone compared to the Red Magic 5G. Instead of a 144Hz display it “only” has a 120Hz display, which is still very respectable. Powering the device is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G, 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM, and 256GB of UFS 2.1 storage. While there’s no cooling fan, it does still have the company’s ICE 2.5 liquid cooling system. The battery comes in at 5,100mAh, which is actually bigger than what you get in the regular Red Magic 5G.

The Red Magic 5G Lite has the same 6.65-inch AMOLED display size and 2340×1080 resolution. For cameras, it has a main 48MP camera along with an 8MP wide-angle lens, 2MP macro camera, and 2MP depth sensor. The front camera is 8MP. The Lite model has shoulder triggers for gaming and a similar “X” design on the back along with RGB effects.

Typically, the Red Magic phones are available through the company’s website, but the Red Magic 5G Lite is actually being sold through a carrier. Vodafone in Spain is the first to get the device. Prices start at €17 per month on a 36-month installment plan (€612 in total). In addition, Vodafone is including a free wireless gaming pad (value of €50) and a free case (value of €20).

Nubia did mention that it was bringing the Red Magic 5G Lite to Spain “first,” but there’s no word on wider availability yet.

Modded Google Chrome browser brings Developer Tools to mobile

The open-source Chromium project is the backbone of Google Chrome, thus developers have the freedom to customize the characteristics of the browser and add additional functionalities. The Mountain View giant decided not to include several features from the desktop version of Chrome in the Android build, but thanks to the availability of the Chromium source code, the aftermarket development community managed to port a handful of such components (like bringing in Chrome extension support on Android). XDA Junior Member Alcatraz323 has now done a similar job as he successfully integrates Developer Tools in his custom Chromium build for Android.

chromium_developer_tools_1 chromium_developer_tools_2

For those not familiar with Google Chrome’s Developer Tools (often referred to as Chrome DevTools), it’s a set of web authoring and debugging tools built into the browser. Unlike desktop environments, Google basically forces users to choose the “Remote Debugging” option from a PC/Mac in order to inspect a page running on an Android device. Not only does it feel rather clumsy, but the design also vastly underestimates the capability of modern age Android devices (and their increasingly large screens).

Existing projects like Eruda offer a somewhat working suite of DevTools on any Android browser by injecting remotely hosted scripts. Alcatraz323’s solution, on the other hand, is quite unique because it brings back Chrome’s native Developer Tools right inside the browser with minimal overhead. His Chromium fork is open source and it comes without Google Account related APIs.

If you don’t want to deep dive into the code, then just grab the APK and sideload it on your device. Note that the Chromium fork doesn’t support Intel-powered x86 Android devices.

Chromium for Android with DevTools: Download from GitHub || XDA Discussion Thread

The initial version lacks smartphone-related UI optimizations (e.g. no floating window while inspecting page elements), although we hope the developer will implement those features in the coming days. Alcatraz323 also published another app that essentially works as a replacement of Chrome Desktop’s remote debugging feature, which can be downloaded from the Play Store.

T-Mobile Tuesdays freebies program is expanding to Sprint customers

T-Mobile and Sprint finally completed their merger back in April. It will take some time before we see many of T-Mobile’s big plans come to fruition, but we’ve already seen some of the smaller “benefits” for Sprint customers. Coming soon, Sprint customers will be able to join the T-Mobile Tuesdays rewards program.

For those unfamiliar, T-Mobile Tuesdays is essentially a rewards program for customers of the carrier. Each Tuesday, there are new offers in the app, many of which are freebies. Some offers are better than others. For example, last week customers could get a free Whopper and fries from Burger King. Maybe not that exciting. Another common offer is free trials, which was the case a few weeks ago with 3-months of Stadia Pro.

The program is incredibly popular among T-Mobile customers, as you can imagine. People love free stuff. Soon, Sprint customers will be able to reap the rewards as well. T-Mobile began teasing this news a while back, but an internal training document reveals the announcement is coming very soon. The document says _T-Mobile Tuesdays swag will be arriving this week,” which means it very possible the program will kick off next Tuesday.

NVIDIA GeForce NOW regains 14 Square Enix games including Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and adds 7 others

NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW game-streaming service enjoys its share in the now-crowded game streaming market on the fact that it was one of the first to appear for end consumers. The service started beta testing for Android last year and opened up for everyone in February. NVIDIA had pledged to announce new games for GeForce NOW every week, and over the past weeks, it has kept to that promise so far. This week, NVIDIA is giving GeForce NOW 21 returning titles from Square Enix, like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, as well as 7 new additions.

The big news for this week is the return of Square Enix to the platform, along with fourteen of its popular titles. NVIDIA says that more are on the way, so that is definitely something to look forward to. These are the fourteen titles making their way to GeForce NOW today under the Steam store:

  • BATTALION 1944
  • Boundless
  • Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director’s Cut
  • Deus Ex: Mankind Divided
  • Just Cause 3
  • Just Cause 4
  • Life is Strange
  • Life Is Strange 2
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider
  • Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition
  • Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance
  • The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit
  • Tomb Raider

For new additions to Steam Store, these are the seven new games added this week:

  • Steam:
    • Hardspace: Shipbreaker
    • Automation – The Car Company Tycoon Game
    • Power of Seasons
  • Epic Games Store:
    • Paladins
    • SAMURAI SHODOWN NEOGEO COLLECTION
    • Satisfactory
    • SMITE

Of these, Hardspace: Shipbreaker is a new game launch on Steam, having released just two days ago, so you do get some new content.

Here are all the previous title additions:

NVIDIA is also expanding the Highlights feature to more games. Introduced last week, NVIDIA Highlights uses smart pattern and image recognition to automatically detect and save key moments for easy gameplay sharing. The latest game to benefit from this is Psyonix’s Rocket League. The full list of GeForce NOW games that support Highlights can be found here. MacOS support for Highlights is also in the works, though no ETA has been provided for the same.

NVIDIA is also working on bringing GeForce NOW support on Android TV at large, with an “Early Access” official release on the cards for the future.

OnePlus Launcher 4.5.4 adds a swipe down gesture to access OnePlus Shelf

Over the last couple of weeks, OnePlus has released a couple of updates for the stock OxygenOS launcher app — OnePlus Launcher. With version 4.4 of the launcher, OnePlus added a redesigned App Switcher to the launcher with a smaller and more uniform UI and a new quick search gesture to help users find installed apps easily. Version 4.5.2 of the launcher then hinted at a new unified search feature called SearchPlus or OnePlus Scout, which would allow users to search for apps, contacts, settings, shortcuts, and more from a single search bar. Now, the company is rolling out version 4.5.4 beta of the OnePlus Launcher which comes with a new gesture to access the Shelf feature.

According to a recent post on the OnePlus community forums, OnePlus Launcher beta version 4.5.4 is now rolling out to users who have enrolled in the beta program. The update introduces a new gesture for OnePlus Shelf, which will allow users to quickly access the feature by swiping down on the home screen. To enable the gesture, you’ll need to long-press on the home screen and then tap on the Home Settings option to head to the launcher settings. Here, you’ll have to tap on the new Swipe down to access option and then tap on the toggle in the top right corner to enable the gesture.

Once the gesture is enabled, you’ll be able to swipe down from anywhere on the home screen to bring up the OnePlus Shelf. For the unaware, OnePlus Shelf is the company’s alternative to the Google Discover feed, which houses shortcuts to some of your favorite apps and a couple of widgets. Just like the Google Feed, the feature could be accessed by swiping right on the home screen in previous versions of the OnePlus Launcher.

It’s worth noting that the new OnePlus Shelf gesture is currently only available in the OnePlus Launcher 4.5.4 beta release on OnePlus 8 series devices in North America and the EU. The company hasn’t released any information regarding a wider rollout yet.

Motorola starts rolling out the Android 10 stable update for the Moto G7 Play

Motorola reserves the “Play” moniker for the lower-range and budget segments, which means software updates are slightly delayed on these particular variants. For example, the OEM excluded Moto G7 Play users to date from getting the taste of Android 10, while the regular Moto G7, as well as its “Plus” and “Power” variants, already received the Android 10 update. The wait is now over, as Motorola has finally started rolling out the Android 10 OTA to the Moto G7 Play via stable channel.

Moto G7 Play XDA Forums

People familiar with Motorola’s update terminology should be aware of “soak testing”, which is a fancy name for usual pilot beta evaluation phase before the stable release. We first came to know about G7 Play’s Android 10 soak test build in early May, but it was riddled with numerous bugs such as broken fast charging and severe battery draining. Hopefully Motorola corrected them in the stable build, which is currently available for download in Brazil.

Thanks to Reddit user u/dontreadthisnickname for the screenshot!

As you can see, the stable Android 10 build for the Moto G7 Play is tagged as QPY30.52-22, albeit the version number may differ across countries and/or carriers. The OTA introduces all the new features that Google rolled out with Android 10, including a system-wide dark mode, gesture navigation, smart replies, and more. Motorola Brazil’s regional update tracker has not been updated yet, which indicates the company opts for a staged rollout scheme.

An important thing to note, the Moto G7 Play is still running legacy 32-bit software, even after the Android 10 update. Despite using a 64-bit processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 to be precise), Motorola refused to ship 64-bit software with this phone. The reasoning behind this decision is not clear, though, but it does hamper aftermarket development because there is no simple way to reuse code components from other members of the G7 family.

Samsung begins rollout of blood pressure monitoring app for the Galaxy Watch Active 2 in South Korea

Samsung has yet to enable the long-anticipated ECG support on the Galaxy Watch Active 2, but the company continues to work towards making the Galaxy Watch Active 2 more useful. Earlier this year, Samsung had announced a blood pressure monitoring app for the smartwatch which would allow users to regularly measure and track their blood pressure without the need of a cuff (for the most part). The whole functionality had been approved for use in South Korea, and now, Samsung has begun rolling out the feature to the Galaxy Watch Active 2 users in the region.

Samsung had promised that the functionality would make its way to the smartwatch in the third quarter of this year, but it has arrived earlier than scheduled, much to the delight of users in that region. South Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety had given its clearance for the Samsung Health Monitor application at the time of the first announcement, so the rollout for the feature was imminent.

Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 health monitor app blood pressure monitoring

To monitor blood pressure on the Galaxy Watch Active 2, users will need to first calibrate the smartwatch and the app with a traditional cuff. They will then be able to tap to “Measure” the blood pressure anytime, anywhere through pulse wave analysis via the wrist sensors on the wearable. The Samsung Health Monitor app will then analyze the relationship between the calibration value and the blood pressure change to determine the blood pressure. Results can be synced to the app on your phone, letting you track readings and fluctuations over a longer period of time.

Samsung has assured that ECG tracking will also be supported on the Samsung Health Monitor app in South Korea within the third quarter of this year, and the feature had been cleared for the region recently. There is no new information on when blood pressure monitoring and ECG tracking would be made available to regions outside of South Korea, so we can presume the timeline of Q3 2020 to remain in place. Samsung also plans to gradually expand the feature to other watches in its existing lineup subject to hardware constraints. It’s upcoming Samsung Galaxy Watch is also expected to come with these functions in place.

Samsung Galaxy Watch XDA Forums

If you cannot wait to get the blood pressure monitoring functionality on your smartwatch, there is already a way to unofficially sideload the function outside of South Korea.
