Twitter for Android is starting to let some users host their own Spaces

Twitter’s Clubhouse equivalent feature, Spaces, has been in development for a while now. Twitter began testing the feature publicly back in December with a select test group on iOS. The company then expanded the availability of the feature to Android users earlier this month, with the feature first going live for Twitter beta users. At the time, the feature was a little rough around the edges and didn’t offer a fully working experience similar to iOS. For example, Android users could join Spaces created by other users but didn’t have the option to create their own. But looks like the company is now allowing some users on Android to create their own Space.

As spotted by several users, Twitter has begun rolling out the ability to host Spaces on Android, bringing the experience finally in parity with its iOS counterpart.

When clicking on the FAB button at the bottom right corner, users will now see a new “Spaces” option right above “Gif” and “Photos”. When you tap on it, you’ll see a small window with a blue “Start your space” button at the bottom. Clicking on the blue button will create a public space that anyone can join it. You can also turn on or off your microphone, enable captions, turn on sound effects, react using emoji and invite other people via DM or a shareable link.

The full-fledged Spaces experience with the ability to create your own space is rolling widely on Android. It was available for me on the latest stable version of Twitter, v8.87.0-release.01 to be precise.

Popularized by Clubhouse, the drop-in audio chats feature has quickly become the hottest trend among social media companies. Apart from Twitter, Facebook, Telegram, Slack, Spotify, and Linkedin are also working on their own take on Clubhouse-style audio room features.

NVIDIA Resizable BAR rolls-out for all RTX 30-series GPUs, and here’s how to enable it on your own

During the launch of the new GeForce RTX 30-series desktop graphics cards, NVIDIA had announced that it will be introducing Resizable BAR, a PCIe-based technology that would allow users with a compatible motherboard to enable all of the GPU memory to be accessed by the CPU at once. Similar to AMD’s Smart Access Memory, this meant faster transfer of data, including textures, shaders, and geometry, thereby providing gains of about 10-20% while gaming.

The tech was initially enabled in February 2021 when NVIDIA started shipping the GeForce RTX 3060, its most affordable option in the series. Now the company has officially enabled support for all of the RTX 30-series that includes the RTX 3090, RTX 3080, RTX 3070, and the RTX 3060 Ti. Apart from a supported motherboard, NVIDIA has also shared a list of CPUs that will support Resizable BAR, so unless you have the right combination of GPU, CPU, and motherboard, you cannot take advantage of this technology.

Additionally, only a handful of games can make use of Resizable BAR, these include:

How to enable Resizable BAR on your PC?

  1. As mentioned, you first need to check whether you have a compatible CPU and motherboard chipset combination. Here are all the supported ones shared by NVIDIA:

  2. Next, make sure that you have updated to the latest motherboard BIOS, if required, by installing an update from the manufacturer. Then head to the BIOS interface and enable Resizable BAR support.
  3. Update to the latest GeForce Game Ready Driver (version 465.89 WHQL or above).
  4. If you own a GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, 3070, 3080, or 3090, then you may require an updated VBIOS. Owners of the Founders Edition graphics card can update using NVIDIA’s tool directly from their website.
  5. If you own a custom partner card, firmware updates for each graphics card can be downloaded by heading to the particular manufacturer’s website.

To verify if Resizable BAR is enabled, open the NVIDIA Control Panel. On the bottom left of the NVIDIA Control Panel, click “System Information”, and in the new window look for “Resizable BAR” on the right. If it says “Yes”, you’re good to go.

Samsung TV Plus launches in India, letting you watch cable channels for free on Samsung Smart TVs and Galaxy phones

Samsung TV Plus is essentially a video service from the South Korean company that allows users to stream cable TV channels over the internet, doing away with the need for a cable connection or a set-top box. Late last year, Samsung expanded the service to 12 new regions in addition to the launch regions of the USA and Canada, while also opening up the service to Galaxy smartphones in addition to Samsung Smart TVs. Now, Samsung is launching the Samsung TV Plus service in India to let users watch select free TV channels over the internet.

Users in India will now be able to make use of Samsung TV Plus on Samsung Smart TVs (models from 2017 onwards) to watch a few ad-supported live TV channels and on-demand videos. Since this service is over the internet, you do not need a cable connection or a set-top box, and neither do you need another subscription. For now, the service allows access to 27 global and local channels in the region, but the company promises that more partners will be on-boarded soon.

“Over the last one year, consumers have been spending more time at home. Their television sets and smartphones have become the centers of their lives, for both entertainment as well as information. We also noticed that consumers now immensely value great media content, reason why we chose to introduce Samsung TV Plus in India. Over the next few months, we expect to scale TV Plus to add more channels and content.”

Further, the service is expected to expand to Galaxy smartphones in India in April 2021, and the TV Plus app can be downloaded from the Samsung Galaxy Store or the Google Play Store.

This could be the new Nest Hello Video Doorbell from Google

Google could be working on a new Nest Hello Video Doorbell model. In the latest version of the Google Home app for Android, we have found an image of what looks to be the backplate of a new Nest Hello Video Doorbell.

An APK teardown can often predict features that may arrive in a future update of an application, but it is possible that any of the features we mention here may not make it in a future release. This is because these features are currently unimplemented in the live build and may be pulled at any time by the developers in a future build.

As seen in the image, the new doorbell (left) in question looks sleeker and longer than the existing model (right). We can also see a USB Type C port at the top, two screws, and a silver circular thing at the bottom. For now, this is the only image we have found inside the Google Home 2.35.

New Nest Hello Video Doorbell

Considering the current Nest Hello Video Doorbell was launched all the way back in 2018 and has a micro USB port, it would make sense for Google to launch a refreshed model. However, we don’t know for sure if Google is indeed planning to launch a new Nest doorbell as, besides this single image, we haven’t come across other info that sheds more light on this mystery device.

For starters, Nest Hello Video Doorbell is a smart wireless doorbell from Google. It offers HD video with 24×7 streaming, Night Vision, pre-recorded quick responses, and can also recognize packages and familiar faces and send alerts on your phone.

Earlier in January, Google discontinued the Nest Cam IQ Outdoor. At the time, the company also confirmed that a new lineup of security cameras would be coming later this year. Although the company hasn’t so far confirmed exactly when it plans to launch the new camera lineup, it’s possible we might see the new Nest Hello doorbell alongside it. We’ll keep digging the Google Home app for more evidence and will let you know if we uncover any new details about the new doorbell.

The Galaxy S20 FE 5G isn’t a brand new device per se. It was launched alongside the 4G Galaxy S20 FE in September last year and is already available in multiple markets. However, it’s only now that the South Korean smartphone maker is launching the 5G variant in India.

Except for the chipset and connectivity, the 5G model is identical to the 4G model in every respect. On the front, you get a 6.5-inch full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz screen refresh rate. Powering the device from the inside is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC, paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB flash storage. On the back, the Galaxy S20 FE 5G features a quad camera setup headlined by a 12MP primary shooter, accompanied by a 12MP ultra-wide shooter and an 8MP telephoto camera. The phone packs a 4,500mAh battery that charges via a 25W fast charger. The rest of the highlights include wireless charging support, IP68 dust and water protection, a MicroSD card slot, Samsung Wireless Dex, Knox Security suite, Bluetooth 5.0, and an under-display fingerprints scanner.

Pricing & Availability

In India, the Galaxy S20 FE 5G is available in only one storage variant: 8GB + 128GB. The phone is priced at ₹55,999 (~$763) but as a special introductory offer, Samsung is offering a flat cashback of ₹8000, effectively bringing the price to ₹47,999 (~$654). The Galaxy S20 FE 5G goes on sale across India starting today from Samsung.com, Amazon.in, Samsung Exclusive Stores and select offline retailers. The phone comes in Cloud Navy, Cloud Mint, and Cloud Lavender colors.

Xiaomi this week added four new members to its Mi 11 series including the top-of-the-line Mi 11 Ultra, the Mi 11i, and the more affordable Mi 11 Lite series. On top of that, the company also unveiled its first-ever foldable smartphone: the Mi MIX Fold. To make it easier for you to connect to fellow owners, share new tips and tricks, and collaborate on aftermarket developments, we have opened up XDA forums for all four phones.

Mi MIX Fold

The latest addition to Xiaomi’s Mi MIX series is the Mi MIX Fold, a smartphone with a 6.5″ outer display and a flexible 8″ inner display. The MIX Fold also features a liquid lens and Xiaomi’s custom Surge C1 image sensing processor on top of the standard ultra-premium flagship hardware we’ve come to expect, such as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888. While we don’t expect this phone to launch internationally, we do expect to see some smartphone enthusiasts import the device from China.
